Is there a place where I can decode the numbers on my 4 spd? I finally got all of the numbers off of it and want to know more about it.

UPDATE: I found a website where I was able to decode most of the numbers. The only one I can't decode is the top number on the VIN pad. It reads 9B397334. Is this a vehicle VIN or a different kind of VIN number?

So they only used the last 8 of the VIN? If that's the case then it only tells the year (1969) and the plant (Hamtramck, Michigan). IF I looked it up right.

Speaking of looked up right. Lets see how accurate I was. On the VIN pad it reads 9B397334 on the top and PP8332769 0085 below it. Am I right in that this is an A833 built on 02/07/1969 and is the 85th unit in line? There is also a casting of C99129 and H3 on the passenger side with C95664 Z and 2x17 below that on the driver's side.

The tail shaft has C99127 and 5-21-68 below it. I found this to be a 23 spline unit that uses a 307 bearing and the 5-21-68 I'm assuming means it was mfg on 05/21/1968?

Some 69 engines and transmissions had the full VIN, but after that it was the last eight digits only.

the 2769 after the PP833 is the assembly date. that is a 10,000 day calendar date of Tuesday February 25 1969. 0085 should be the 85th unit build that day if I'm not mistaken. Also if this is a B-body 23 spline it is most likely from a 69 charger 383 car. As far as the vin stamp goes 69 is a year where part of the year they stamped the full vin, then switch back to the last 8 digits only.

Is there a way to find out the gear ratios without having to disassemble anything?

Dan at Brewers performance will have the best answer on ratio, but I believe that 66-69 are the same. they changed in 70 if I'm not mistaken.
