Going to be doing a transmission swap on my 1969 Dodge Charger R/T after wrapping up the car cruises this summer. Currently has a 727 3 speed auto, going to be putting in a 5 speed, currently looking at Tremec TKO style. I've never done anything like this and will have some help doing it, but wanted to put together a checklist to be sure I have everything I will need. What are all of the parts/pieces needed to do a correct swap and setup? Also, what is a good brand for street performance driveshafts? Gonna need one of those too. Thanks.

Short list: 4 speed pedal assembly, floor hump, different console (if you have one,) z-bar, firewall reinforcement bracket, clutch linkage, bell housing, flywheel, crankshaft drilled for a pilot bushing/bearing?, clutch assembly. No help on the driveshaft, sorry.

check out Brewers Performance, they should be able to hook you up with all the components needed.

If you're looking to do a Tremec 5 speed swap it's very different than doing a swap to the 833 4-speed. I recently did the swap from a 727 to a TKO-600 on my '69 Sport Satellite. There's actually less cutting of the tunnel involved as the shifter comes up in the center instead of off to the side like on the 4 speed. I got my kit from Silver Sport Transmissions, it included everything needed for the swap except for console parts. If you have a console there's no need to get the 4 speed console, your auto console will work, you just need the 4 speed top plate and shifter boot. After getting my TKO-600 broken in I'm very happy with it, although I don't do any racing, just spirited driving. It did shift very stiff and clunky at first but after about 500 miles it smoothed out pretty good.

for the console it has the original auto console. I heard the tremecs were clunky but I'll probably have them put the speed shifter upgrade in it just because I hate clunky shifting. I'll check out Brewers and silver sport for extra parts

I had SST do the carbon fiber synchronizer and brass shift fork upgrades on mine, I was kind of surprised that it felt as clunky as it did when I started driving it but it literally smoothed out a little bit almost every time I shifted as it was breaking in. I think Brewers specializes in just parts for the A-833 4 speed, I got my console shifter boot from them. Like I said, you can use the original auto console, you'll just need the manual top plate, shifter boot, and a little adapter bracket for the shifter that SST supplied in their kit.
