I have a TRW power steering pump on a 1964 Belvedere with a 318 Poly. The low pressure return hose fitting is loose and slides back and forth into the PS reservoir.

How is this supposed to be attached to the reservoir?

How much of the tube should be inside the reservoir?

Should it be sealed completely? It seems like it would leak if it wasn’t sealed, but there is no clear evidence that it was welded or brazed other than maybe a small spot.

Below are the two photos I’ve taken.

If anyone has photos of the inside of their reservoir, I would appreciate it.

If you can clean it up entirely, you might be able to solder or braze it back on.

Silver solder it. Might have been some kind of reverse-crimp, swage joint of some kind. The stress over time there is significant. You'll have to de-oil the area completely to get a good silver braze joint.

If you need a replacement. Does it match yours, think 1/2" return hose. A radiator shop or a good tig welder. $37 shiped.
