If you are measuring across the caps, you have the small joints and normally, the retaining clips are on the inside of the shaft so it's common for the joint caps to look like they are sticking out...

All of the detroit driveline years in mopars are inside clips.
Mopar was inside clip detroit series till detroit went under in the early 90's, then went to spicer and then aam as it is now, for the trucks anyway the cars are neither
Just did the U-joints on my 4x4 Ram.......Lots of them! Went through Dennydriveshafts.com They even sent an e-mail saying "Hey.....if you are doing a Ram, some of these wont fit!" They caught a mistake I made while ordering. Kudos to them. They also have a great reference section. They give all dimensions and cover combination U-joints. They carry Spicer joints, which you want, but are hard to find locally. Good folks to deal with.
