My daughter-in-law is 9 months pregnant. She was heading to the hospital today to induce labor. My son was about to get off work and go there also. This will be their 4th daughter. My son did not make it. He fell off the roof and his wife had to turn around and go get him because no one called ambulance for him. He has lost most of his memory and still does not know who people are. He is in the Clinton, Missouri hospital with his 9 month pregnant wife sleeping in a chair beside him. Their kids are at her grandpa's house as no where else for them to stay right now. Her last day worked was Tuesday. No clue when he will be able to work again. Their daughters 6, 4, 2, and next one is any day or hour. They do not have insurance and he can't claim work comp as he is 1099 worker. I do not know how they will make it for a while. It really hurts as I can't help em much either as I have not worked for the last 5 months and can't go back to work for 3 weeks. I very very seldom ever ask for help as I can stand on my own 2 feet and handle whatever however. But I am desperate and for one of the first times ever, I don't know what to do and can't even help my son and his family. Any ideas of what I can do? Are there any web sites where I could ask for help and maybe get donations for them? I saw one time a while back where some "dude" asked if someone would buy him a beer and got thousands of dollars donated to him by thousands of people - very crazy. But if thousands of crazy people can donate to that cause, surely some good folks somewhere could help this family out a little bit. Like I said I feel desperate and I am swallowing my pride big time by asking others for ideas to help my kids. If anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate it. Their names are Hawk and Valarie Duggins and are currently both in the same room at Clinton, Missouri hospital.

Go to church. Most churches have outlets into the community to help people in a time of need. Your local churches may have branches here in Mo that far north. I know for a fact that a church in your town has a branch in mine. It's a start anyway.

Sorry to hear of the misfortunes in your family. Keep the faith.

Call your local news channel and try to get the story put on TV. Then do a Google search for "gofundme" and set up an account for the family. Good luck.

"Local" news station is hour and a half away from where they live.. They live in boonies.. But good idea - I will ty

Sure am hoping for the best for your family Answer Book

IMHO, Its a damn shame that a young couple with soon to be four beautiful young children in the wealthiest nation in the world have no health insurance. Why? The last thing you need to worry about when you get sick, or injured in this case is how in the world are you going to pay for it.

I thought you would be a candidate (or your son..or who-ever) for the Affordable Care Act...
We have a fellow member on the Forum, the Bladecutter...he received tremendous Med support...

Prayers & best wishes for You & yours. Your Son fits disabled category, try signing Him up for Supplemental Security Income through Social Security,,,SSI will cover His medical & provide some financial aid.

Kansas must be different. My understanding is that every worker is covered by BWC regardless of premiums paid. Its one of those situations where the ball gets rolled back up the hill, so to speak. Meaning, 1099 or not, the boss still has to carry the insurance as well. And if they qualify income wise, that's what the Affordable Care Act is all about too. HTH, Lefty71

I'm so sorry to hear this...

The General Contractor on the job should have
Workers Compensation Ins. for anyone on the job,
or liability Ins. too
including people not on his payroll, 1099's etc.

unless something is shady, taking cash under the table etc.
no deductions, or not filing/claiming income for taxes
or someone not pulling permits etc.

do a -www- search about Workers Compensation Rules
it spells it out pretty well

Disclosure:
please don't take what anything I'm going to say
"the wrong way"
I'm just trying to help & educate/inform you,
it's not accusations or placing quilt, on anyone
it's not intended as bad, just information

There's almost always "second party liability"
as much as I hate these types of lawsuits,
going after the GC (General Contractor), or home/business owner
There's usually always someone else with deeper-pockets
when they didn't do anything wrong "necessarily"
an unfortunate accident
They are the one liable, right or wrong
They did nothing wrong
except not checking the people/subcontractors/hourly workers
contracted labor/1099 people they hire for proper Ins. & licenses etc.
before they hire them
It falls on them (the GC & Homeowner/Business owner etc.)
to do the due diligence, check
But; when they hired outside help,
that should have their own Workers Comp. Ins., Health & liability Ins. too
(appr. business or contractors license etc.)
it's part of doing business, sometimes it's a necessity
because of these situations like this, it's to protect everyone involved...

Huge expense in the construction Industry

The people your son was working for, being paid by
(the GC on the Job, he was on the roof for, that pulled the permits)
their Workers Comp. Ins. "may" still be partially liable, to an extent
exactly because of these kind of cases/situations, why they have Ins.

----------------------------------------------------------

I'd also check with Social Services
there's always programs for people that can't pay
or can't afford to pay, we are a nation that help the needy...
Whether some people, that don't think so or not...
There has been for decades...

------------------------------------------------------

I hate to say it, I hate these kind of lawsuits...
But if he can't get some help threw the proper legal channels
or some sort of insurance
Then your son may need to hire a good lawyer
or get one that'll do it on a percentage,
if he thinks there's a good case & he can win for your son
no money out of pocket, until it's resolved or settled

--------------------------------------------------------

I hope all ends up well, I hope all health issues
have a full & speedy recovery
with both your daughter in law & sons well being

& congrats on the pending grandchild

Good Luck with all...
