I need to finalise s60 order which rear gear 3.73 or 4.10 is best for 70 charger with 493 stroked 440 with Indy heads cam solid roller 625/628 5-9k rpm cam ( ran 10.2@132 1/4 in 70 duster with 4.56 gears and 29" slicks)
I want best strip gear hoping to break into the 10's but I will drive at 55mph on the street so highway rpm is a concern
I run 26.5 hoosier but don't mind a 30" tire
And refitting the a833 if that makes a difference
Cheers Shaun

I've got 4:10 in my 69 charger. Going to be stroked 400 to 512. However, I won't be doing what you're doing trying to get to 10's. That in mind I would go less than 4:10. But let's see what others have done. Good luck.

I may have to use a bit of nitrous as motor makes 600 hp but if I could just get 10.99 at the strip it would make a nice street car for the uk as jap rice burners and euro look vw's are the norm over here

Again, like XP29h says,
I'd go with the 3:73s but:
A) The 4:10s will get you down the race track quicker
B) The 3:73s will be more comfortable down the highway

If you want to race or if you want to go down the street...
That is the question...

I have 3:90s in the SC/Rambler
I cruise the roads at 55 to 60 mph

I wanna race but my nearest track is 110 miles away oh how I wish we had the number of tracks you have in the states

I run about 65mph at 3000 rpm win 4.10's and 30" tires. That's fine for me, as I don't go far. Highway really isn't fun though, but then I tend to stick with big long back roads, far more fun.

I can keep up with highway ( our motorway) traffic at 60 mph but out of 110 miles to strip 85 are on highway just wanna hear what people are running and if 4.10's will be manageable on the highway or will I run out of gear at the big end?

Xp29h you would go less than 4.10 , what would you go?

Not going to be a great answer for you. Right now, no. I'll stick with 4:10s. However after I get the stroker in and see how it runs, I might go higher, 3.91 or the 3.73's. I can't see going to 4.56's. Sorry couldn't do better

I'm in the same boat and my solution is 4.10's and when I can afford it - Gear Vendors overdrive.

I would run the 4.10 gear with the 30" tall tire. What do you men refitting the a833? It has an automatic in it now? Heresy. The 4 speed will give you lower rpm on the highway. Converters slip, and depending on how tight it is or isnt could have a major impact on rpm on the highway.

It is an original 383 4bbl 4 speed but I fitted a 440 mild built and a tci race auto box with a 3800 converter which didn't lock up on highway anf I had 3.23 gears it ran 13.2 1/4 but I'm refitting the manual as more fun to drive and more of a challenge on the strip and new 493 motor.
I had thought about 4.10 and when I can afford a gears vendor but it would be a couple of years due to cost and shipping costs to the uk

My Satellite does about 3300+ RPM @ 60 MPH on the highway with 4.10's & 28" tire, TFlite. It's loud & I limit my trips to 40 - 50 miles. I've gone 11.09 @ 121.5. If the 30" tire works I'd go with the 4.10's.

I run 4.30's and I use Hoosier 30 x 9 radial slicks at the track and on the street as they drive great on the street since I have radials up front. I drive 45 miles to the track and I run 60 mph turning about 3100 rpm. I dont mind it at all as my 493 sings real nice cruising along at 3100 rpm at 60 mph. Its run 10.70's like that racing it just as I drive it. Ron

I would run the 4.10s with the 4 speed and 30 inch tires. I'm running 3.55s with 26 inch tires and run at 3000 rpm at 70 mph but have an automatic with 4200 stall. I used to drive 140 miles to the track one way. Also ran the same set up with 28 inch tires and 4.10 at 2800 rpms going 65mph, so you should be good with a standard and 4.10s for 110 miles shouldn't be a problem

Go with 4:10s and install an 18" Gear Vendors overdrive unit on your 727 (assuming you have a 727). That will make your gears 3:23 for highway driving and 4:10s on the track. Best of both worlds and problem solved.

Gear vendors run about $3K.

Ordered 4.10's Detroit locker strange s60 thanks for advise Shaun

I think you made the right choice. my 4.10's really woke my car up. One unexpected benefit is it keeps my highway speeds pretty tame and will likely extend my life lol.
