I bought a Fel-pro valley pan gasket for my '71 440 and it had four cardboard gaskets in the box ,what application are they for ?

They help on aluminum intakes as the expansion rates differ between CI and aluminum.

To make you ask questions lol

This always generates a lot of back and forth chatter
They are there and supposed to be used with aluminum intakes

The factory did not use them with iron heads and iron intakes
You will find people that never use use them and people that swear by them

Mostly people have problem with them making it so that you can't get the bolts started

Personally I never used them before this engine and never had a problem
With this engine I had a vacuum leak and decided to use them but to make them fit I had to have the intake cut down about .030"

I've never been able to get the bolts in on my 400 with the paper gaskets. I've always just used the pan with a little RTV and it's always been fine.
