I currently have 4 inch tall chrome valve covers. I noticed they are touching my rocker shaft in all 4 corners. Found the noise! Beating like a drum. Any of you guys know of some that are straight up on the edges that will clear? Thanks.

Do you mean the rockers are hitting the covers? Or the blue rocker shaft hold downs?

Most of the valve covers I’ve seen tend to be tapered on the corners. I need something straight down.

The blue hold downs.
Those are not going to make noise if they are touching the covers. If you are hearing noise the rocker arms must be hitting. You can grind the hold downs so they do not hit.

The only witness marks ore on the 4 corners. Rocker arms are not touching.

Again that will not make noise. Better look those covers over closely. If you are hearing noise from the covers something is intermittently or rhythmically hitting the covers.

The valve covers could be acting like a drum magnifying the noise from the rocker shaft through the hold downs contacting the covers. Looks like there's plenty of meat to grind off to make some clearance for the covers, Clarence.
