Let me pick the brains of the experts on here . I have had a vibration in it around 3000 rpm , and this past weekend I pulled the transmission out to put a new clutch in her , and noticed after pressure washing everything that the bell housing was cracked and I was missing a dial pin . the crack is about 6 in long and through and through between where two bolts go . my question gentlemen is would that crack and missing pin cause it to flex around 3 grand and cause my vibration . driveshaft has already been balanced so I know that's not it . thanks for any help on this !

Just spit-balling here, throwing it out there;

A misalignment in the bell-housing, YES it could cause a vibration...

a bit more info would help US help you some too...

A crack in the bell-housing isn't good,
replace or repair it...
Make sure to replace the missing alignment dowel pin too
{I assume, you were talking about alignment dowel pin, not a dial pin}

What engine is it behind ?
Is this a BB or SB what year & displacement ?
would also help

Is it on a steal crank engine ?
or a cast crank engine ?
they take different clutches, usually...

did you replace the pilot bearing/bushing when doing a new clutch ?
or check it for wear/clearances at-least ?
that could be a vibration problem too...

did you install the right clutch & have it centered properly,
before you tightened it down, using a proper clutch alignment tool
&/or do you have the correct matching flywheel/clutch combo
for either of the style of crankshafts mentioned above ?
the clutch could be out of balance, maybe threw a balance weight
the flywheel could be for an external balance engine or visa versa too,
{albeit that'd wrong clutch & flywheel combo, usually would vibrate violently}
or wasn't either wasn't balanced properly to begin with...

among other things like pinion angles or misalignment
or worn out mismatched parts etc.

good luck

Were the Universal joints checked or replaced?

Have you had a wheel alignment and balance lately?

Wheel weights can have an effect at certain RPM levels.

The imbalance could have caused the bell housing to crack but it would have to be a pretty bad vibration to do that. Crankshaft balanced....you mean the total engine package was internally balanced? Was the drive shaft balanced too? Generally, the flywheel is checked when you balance the engine and the clutch parts come neutral balanced but it doesn't hurt to check them.....especially if you're racing with it.

I have not installed the new clutch yet , waiting on it to come in , having the bell housing repaired now . its a 69 383 in my roadrunner . I am replacing the pilot bushing also . I couldnt see being that far in it and not replacing that cheap bushing . of course i have seen some folks not replace it . I never figured out why they wouldnt . I am replacing the dowel pin also . located it faster than i could a clutch lol . The wheels are balanced , i thought that could be it and had them balanced again . Its a steel crank engine . This is the first time i have had the trans out of this car since i bought it . so i had new tail shaft bushing and seals put in the transmission . The trans had no leaks but i figured replace them anyway since it was out . thanks for all the advice im getting gentlemen , its being a great help . Im sure you all know how aggravating a vibration can be when you cant figure it out . I have worked on big trucks and heavy equipment all my life and this car has stumped me ..lol

A thought- trans mount trashed? Vibrations are a PIA.
