Did some work on my Victor's yesterday...was relatively nice outside and wanted to spend some time in the garage. Still far from done...need to get a head gasket to know where my limits are w/ the combustion chamber to unshroud the valves, as well as get the 906's off the block and mock everything up to know where the ports are gonna land so I know how much I need to/can move things around. I guess I'm done w/ the bowls, guide boss, and most of the chamber.

90% Throat. Narrowed and reshaped leading edge of guide boss:

Exhaust port/bowl is nothing special, just smoothed and slight narrowing and tapering of the trailing edge 'nub':

Did the intake plenum earlier this year.

The port inlet (plenum) measures ~3.6 in2. As cast, the x-section at the intake to head surface on the head is the smallest part of the total port at ~2.58 in2. The manifold side was 2.66 in2. The port in the head then opens to ~3.1 in2 at the short turn. My goal at this point is to open up the section at this mating surface as much as possible. Since the intake is the std port Vic and not MW, I'm going to be limited on sizing ultimately by how much 'meat' there is to take away...I think I should get close to what I've calc'd is the minimum req'd, though...we'll see if I need some epoxy after this endeavor...this might be an area where I have to compromise..eh, we'll see. Will need to get everything mocked up before I feel comf going much larger than what's shown, however.

Anyway, that's it for now. Just have to do this another 7 times, then begin fitment. Oh, how much are a low mileage set of 906's w/ big valves, hardened seats, and ported w/ the ol' MP templates worth? I honestly have no idea...

I can't tell which is which, but did you touch the intake ports? I'm trying to learn to do this myself on a couple junk heads I have sitting around. I imagine it's good to leave them a little rough so the fuel breaks up more, am I right?

The intake ports on the manifold? Yes, nothing interesting there though, that's why I didn't include any pics of them...

In my experience and what I've read, sometimes leaving texture helps, sometimes not...and not always just for atomization, and not always just an as-cast finish but methodical texturing all the way to dimpling...ha, that helps right? For anything less than big budget stuff that can afford multiples of the same part to experiment w/, 60ish grit is fine w/ me. Quick and clean. Most people appreciate it over other finishes as well if resale is a possibility.

If you have any q's, by all means ask away.

Looks like a decent start
