I have a numbers matching 383 rm21 68 RR and was wondering if there is a way to verify that the 4 speed and rear are original to the car? The fender tag is there and it verifies the 4 speed and a 3.55 sure grip rear are correct for the car.

On the passenger side on the flat surface sticking out the numbers are the last 5 numbers of the vin (15149). Mine is a 69 Super Bee factory 4 speed numbers matching. Not sure this applies to your 68 RR or not.

My 68 had the partial vin like above, mine was built in march 68, also had the last 4 of the vin stamped on the block by the oil sending unit.

The 68 may have the vin on the top edge of the bell housing where it mates to the block.
