How do you remove the vinyl roof trim,72 Charger, not the window trim, but the body mounted trim. Have some rust to deal with. Thanks

I used my fingers gently. IIRC, I started with the trim pieces along the drip rail, then took of the piece running across the roof by hand gently too. (my car was 3/4 vinyl top, front window to mid-roof) The roof piece has nylon holders mounted inside perpendicular to the piece, one each for the nubs welded into the roof. There are holes in the body near each end of that piece and a nub on the trim connects into those holes. Along the windshield, I got a tool but still ended up gently pulling each clip point with my fingers. Some or all of the clips are mounted with phillips head screws. I had rust through at several of them, ended up chipping out about 4 inches of rust from the window frame and injected the paste POR-15 in there to stop it until I can do a better repair. From how it looks 7 years later, I might not need a better repair.

you can use a few things to work it off.
i've used
paint sticks, popcicle sticks, old can opener on the bottle side...
the trick is
take your time, don't force it,use some finess and
have patience and you will get it off undamaged.

Then I can sell it, I have no intention of replacing the vinyl top, I want it to be a hard top.

the only thing vinyl tops are good for
is trapping water underneath them and premoting rust on the roof.
they don't even look good except on a few late 70's cars.

They hide the wrinkles from all that body torque, lol. Seriously, limo roofs are vinyl for that exact reason.

I don't mind the looks of some of the vinyl roofs, on the 73-74 SE models, and a few others, but like most, prefer the hardtop clean look. One say I mean business, and the other says, I'll be right back honey, I'm going out for bread and milk, even if there is something more sinister lurking under the hood.

That is just the look I want and why I'll be using 318 badges on my car no matter what I do to the engine :)

I'll be doing the opposite, I want my car to look like it can go fast...only it will be racing next to the prius on the way to get groceries. :sHa_dielaughing2:
