Hey guys. I wanted to know if its possible to take vinyl top off and feather the paint in or do I have to paint the whole car?..thanks for the feed back.

I'm not a body guy but i think it depends on the condition of the paint and on the shop that does it. My Toyota took some damage from Hurricane Sandy and needed some repair to the passenger 1/4. They feathered it across the trunk and I seriously cant see a difference. Of course, this is a 3 year old paint job with no visible oxidation and a factory color that is readily available. Just my $0.02

Lot of variables in that one.....Not only do you need to match the paint (red is tough to perfect, especially the more environment-time it's seen), but also the paint/clear surface texture. Other variables.... location, condition of paint, metallic/non metallic, type of paint (single stage-Basecoat/clear) and like mentioned by HT413, the guy holding the gun. I would say the single stage solids are the easiest. Base coat-clearcoat metallics, beyond my garage resto skill set. Either way, the biggest factor is the guy doing the work. Someone that didn't know what they were doing could really screw up your paint job in a hurry. I would shop around, do some research on the shops around you, ask for references or displays of work and go from there.

Good luck!

No paint is ever a perfect match. The trick is doing your blend correctly so it fools your eyes. Just ask the painter what he thinks. Also make sure it's a good shop and talk to previous customers. Good luck!
