Long time lurker, first time poster. Search didn't show a good build thread for clone. I guess I need to know how to get from here :

to here:

Going to look at Satelite Saturday and hopefully purchase. I have some mechanical skill, but no body work skill, so hopefully body is mostly OK. 71/72 Roadrunner has always been my favorite car, but not wanting to put money into a real GTX, so I am happy with clone. Car will just be a weekend cruiser/project for my Dad, brother and me. Hopefully this is the right forum to start in.

Thanks in advance for help.

The good thing is that you can get full quarters for 71-72s now, so you won't be up a creek. I would keep it a satellite but add on all of the goodies - stripe kit, hood, go-wing, etc. Might want to install a tuff wheel and a rallye dash, and build a nice 440, along with the BB 727 and 8 3/4 that you'll need behind it.

A somewhat cheaper alternative would be a 340 Roadrunner clone.

In your situation, these words certainly hold true.

There is no substitute for research!

I have a 69 GTX and I can say for mine all the extra trim pieces are very pricey. Not sure of your year but just all the grille, tail panel, emblems, wheel moldings cost me about 3k more than a road runner.

Welcome to the forum. You've picked a good car to clone. I would spend the extra money and stick with the GTX. But then I'm partial.....

This is the car I picked up last summer.

Its not a GTX, just a Road runner, but after doing years of research, and almost pulling the trigger on a couple others, I fell in love with the TX9 color on these, and decided to settle for nothing less. I remember that black 71 posted in your opening post. It was for sale last year, and I saved a bunch of pictures of it. It was actually one of several out there I saw that inspired me. The picture below is of another car that won me.

Nothing badder than a black muscle car.
I cant tell you anything about how difficult or expensive a build will be, but I say, go for it!

Nothing too crazy there; front and rear spoilers, air grabber hood, chrome wheels and a lot of black trim. Looks like a red strobe stripe down the quarter and possibly aftermarket mirrors. Good black paint jobs ain't cheap. Neither is the hood.

The picture the OP posted didnt have an air grabber, so that should save some $$, and if the car is relatively rust free and the interior is already black, then the build is almost half way there. I agree a quality black finish will probably be the most expensive part of the build, and the torque thrusts with decent rubber will set you back about $2000, but the rims on that yellow car might work too.
