im restoring my first car i got it when i was 8 from my grandmothers mother its a 73 satellite im doing some minor body work before paint but on the front fenders the slightest touch pops the tops down i pop them out are they always like that or mine just weak should i just pop them down and use bondo im not a fan of bondo please help

What you are describing is an "oilcan" in the metal, and the metal needs some reworking, likely there is some damage hiding somewhere. The steel in those fenders are .22 gauge and are easy to work with if you know what you are doing... show the problem to a bodyman for some advice, pretty hard to advise without seeing!

well my buddie is a paint and body man but i wanna do or try to do most of the work my self im not a fan of paying others to do stuff nor am i a fan of people saying ya i got a rebuilt car or truck and then ask them something and there like ummm i bought it

I think the idea he was trying to get across is to have your friend teach you how to fix it...jmho

I had a 74 & the fenders sanded really well, sounds like it might be stressed from previous insident....need to try to fix without puddy or itll want to pop out naturally and crack the filler....god knows that wont make ya happy either

Never a good idea to try and fix innies or outies with filler, makes a mess. There must be a reason the metal is oil canning. Does it do it on the whole top half of the fender or just one spot?
