Hi all,

I have a 1969 roadrunner that is in need of all new exterior sheet metal.

Currently thinking about:
-Both new quarter panels (not rotted out but I don't like the repair the previous owner did)
-Roof (had a vinyl top)
-Both new doors
-Both front fenders
-Both inner fenders (not from rust, was in a collision)
-Bumper brackets
-Lower grille panel
-Grille
-Hood

The doors and fenders are heavily pitted but the insides are perfect. Which is unfortunate but it is what it is. I was considering just having door skins done but the inside panels on my doors have some pinholes and other minor damage, I think by time you skin them the new doors would come out ahead cost wise.

I don't care about originality. Car has no history and is not going to be super original. I'm going for a super clean car with minimal filler and no hidden rust.

I am looking for close to perfection body line wise and structure wise. My original metal cannot meet those requirements. I also like how new panels will be fully primed and 'fresh'.

I understand the new AMD stuff will need some fitment work.

Are there any concerns over any of these items I should know about, or are all these pieces pretty decent minus needing some fitting done? I've read quarters, fenders, and their hoods are decent.

Just open and look for dent/bent sheet metal. You might get a deal for buying in a big order. See if a dealer is in your location. Compare prices on AMD site and ask dealer for break on price. He gets it about 30% cheaper. My buddy is a dealer in NY bought from him and AMD sent it to me. I saved big time.

some of it is perfect, and some of it is not.........but it is nice working with new metal

making a relief cut here and there; and a little manhandling is certainly not out of the question

'69 RR rear quarters ... here are the common issues:

There will be a crease above the wheel openning. The easiest way to eliminate it is with a shrink disk.
The rear does not match the curve of the quarter extensions. Takes a LOT of work to get a good fit.
The rear window bottom corners are completely wrong - the trim WILL NOT FIT. Best solution to cut and replace those areas with original sheet metal.

In summary - I would NEVER replace a full quarter again. Retain as much original sheet metal as you can.

Thank you, so basically try and keep around the glass and everything else should be okay with some fitment work? My quarter panels are unusable from the vinyl top trim down basically, but around the glass is perfect.

Its the lower corner where the bottom trim fits. The curvature of the AMD is WAY off. And the stainless trim is not going to be easy to tweak to fit !! From the dutchman seam to the corner the curve is 1/2" off.

I would recommend an original hood over the AMD version- there is one listed for sale on here right now-
