I recently found out I don't have the correct radiator for my Road Runner - the RR I have owned for 30 yrs. It's always been the 26", and I assumed it was the original, but someone came by and pointed out it's a 66 Rad. I did some research and found two possibilities. An 047 and 048. The 048 is said to be for a HEMI and the 047 is 383 / 440. My car is a perf axle package car with A/T and a 383. Can I use the 047 and still be correct? What is the difference between the 047 and 048? I'm hoping I don't have to pay HEMI money for a radiator in a 383 car. Thanks.

Here you go Meeps, straight from ma Mopar! Ok, maybe not file is to big, so check your email buddy.

:hello2: Exactly what I needed. Thanks! Now it looks like I get to pay HEMI prices for my radiator :argue:

68 RR didn't have 440 option. SAo if correct is the way...383 rad..not hemi

would not the hemi rad be a 4 core whereas the the standard a 3 core?

I'm pretty sure Chrysler never made a 4 core. The one I have (066 I think) is a 3 core and so is another 26" I have.

True, but the description for the 047 rad says 383/440 and from Matt's list I found out the 047 is A/C only where the 048 is non A/C but covers the HEMI and anything else requiring more cooling. There is another rad for high altitude but my car was built in LA and sold at Prince Chrysler Plymouth in Inglewood so the high altitude probably wouldn't apply.

There are two ways to look at this radiator. it is a 383 rad. It is a Hemi rad.

The BIG difference is that it was used in a LOT of 383s. Whereas a Hemi in say a 1969 car only shared its radiator (054) with a few other cars such as R/Ts, GTXs and 440 six pack cars. There are a lot more 048s out there than 054s.

The radiator required for your car is not as valuable as the 69s. You should be able to find a good used (as in not needing recore) for $500. anyting more and a buyer may as well be a brand new repo for $1200.

That's good to know!

I agree with 696pack on the values of these pieces and hopefully the availability. As far as the value of the 047, my guess would be $300 in the condition talked about.

OK, I spoke to the guy with the 047 today and he's thinking about $400.00 if it's useable. And he puts the 048 at $800.00 but doesn't have one. I think I will keep trying for the 048 since I already have the wrong but functional 26". Also I'm pretty sure the 048 is 68 only. The 66 rad is a 948 according to the chart.

Can I rename this thread "everything you wanted to know about radiators but were afraid to ask"? OK, just kidding. Lots of good info here.
