I can't get used to the oblong wheel in my 64, what are you guys using? Has anyone tried a wheel from a same year A-body? I don't think a tuff wheel would look right at all.

I've got a "period correct" 13" Grant foam and three spoke chrome wheel in my 66.
Looks like it's supposed to be there.
Allso ties in with the chrome Magnum 500 wheels.

Cheap and easy from Summit.

im using an actual for real original, not to be duplicated.....honest to goodness steering wheel. if i dont find the horn innerds for the Javelin, ill be using 2 sticks and some string ! ...but seriously folks, all my cars have the original steering wheels.

Honestly I like the look of the factory ones but they're BIG, they're thin, and they're not even round. hahaha Not for the performance minded, that's for sure. Smaller and rounder would be a big improvement, that's why I was asking about the dart wheels.

I'm not building this thing to be a canyon carver, but I can do a lot better

I myself love the factory wheel and thats what I use on my 63. Ron

I've used vise grips before but never did that on a Mopar :D

I chose to stay with my factory wheel. Had my local upholstery shop fill the cracks and wrap the wheel in leather.
Looks great. Have the same feel as the stock wheel.

The "A" body steering wheel is a direct swap.

I really wanted use my factory '64 (Dodge) wheel with the two piece horn ring but every one that I turned up was cracked beyond repair. Mine was so bad that when you cornered, a section of plastic would slide around and pinch your fingers. Kept me awake I guess. Now I run a chrome & foam 14"er that I don't really care for.
I'm thinking about getting one of these.

Talk about "period"...I came close to getting a white one, but decided to go for basic black due to the dirt/yellowing potential.

im with rusty.do you have back seats? if not how about a pic.

Thanks for the kind words guys. I had the back seat as I like the full interior. When I put the rollbar in I had planned to put the back seat back in. But after the bar was in I could not get the back seat floor cushion in as it would not fit between the bars. So I figured no one will most likely crawl back ther anyway so I left it out. No way I can crawl back there. I figured the weight it took out was put back in by the weight of the rollbar.
Thanks again for the kind words. Ron

I used this grant wheel in my 64 to give more leg room under the wheel also less depth made more arm comfort for driving. Maybe a bit modern looking but I think it fit my needs.

I like the stock wheels, too. I found a much better than mine original sport wheel that I'm almost done restoring. I also have a spare standard wheel from a '64 Polara that's in decent shape (restorable). I was going to use it until I found the one I'm working on now. Pat - are you still looking for a '64 Dodge wheel?

Possibly, send my a photo in a pm maybe. I know there are two different style wheels for '64. One has the two piece center and the other just has the plain one piece.

Thanks

I think this one is the single ring style, but I'll check.

Thanks guys for all the kind words about my 63. I do love this place ! Ron
