What do you scrimp on?

If you are like most car guys I know you cut back spending in other ways, therefore justifying our hobby. I do dumb things like buying the cheap pop at grocery stores. Ordering off the dollar menu at McDonalds. If you need a new part do you cut back in other areas?

I try to cut back on most things. I pay myself car payments and buy any car I get with cash. I have the most basic internet and TV service because all the fancy cable channels are a rip off. I don't buy the latest fancy smartphone every year. We don't go out to eat often, and I bring my lunch to work most days. I don't wear fancy of expensive clothes, and I have lived in my same house for 25 years. It ain't fancy, but it is comfortable.

So I guess the bottom line is I don't buy a bunch of crap just because. When I do spend money, I try to buy quality stuff that I really want and/or need, and keep that for many years.

I'm prity much the same as above .
No frills
No financing no credit cards
If I can't afford it I won't buy it.
I have a special acct for my project cars so if I buy and sell cars the extra cash hos in there or if I strip a car the extra cash from parts go's in there also . So as I need parts I just buy them if I can't afford them then I go looking for something to buy and fix up then sell so I can make some extra cash .

Take the Train to work, carry a coffee thermos, pack pb&j for lunch. Change oil in driveway, no car washes away from home.

I buy salvage vehicles (no car payments) and do all of my own work to avoid spending tons of money but my main way of offsetting the cost is by doing side jobs to pay for high dollar parts. For the most part I don't really skimp but come up with ways to make extra money.

looks like nothing...my car has been parked for two years...maybe next year.

I scrimp on most things too. I don't waste money on things I don't need. But like some of you above when I do buy something I try to buy quality. I also don't really deprive myself - or my wife. We try to enjoy life and hopefully the major spending on the car is done for awhile. I'm finally getting it back after 4 years in incarceration.

Ive seen way to many avoid spending money on there family so they can afford hobby cars and i think its the most self centered selfish thing there is. I won't piss money away but i won't cut back so i can spend more money on my hobby either.
I work side jobs now that I'm retired and use some of that income for the hobby

I buy 18 ga. sheet metal and make my own body parts with a homemade English wheel, a stump and a hammer.

My kids always come first. When it comes to my creature comforts I cut back hard.
