What does "participant removed from conversation" mean?

I had member respond with a PM to two items listed for sale but when I tried to respond, their name is crossed out and it says "participant removed from conversation". I want to make sure I'm responding to interest in parts but what is the protocol with this? Do I assume they are no longer interested, has a moderator removed them or do I reach out with a PM?

My guess is they clicked on "leave conversation", which would remove them from it.

Send a new one, it may have been done in error, or they were clearing their inbox.

They cleaned out their inbox, thus deleting their conversation with you.
