What Is This? Came out of sure grip third member.

Was dropping my third member to change gear ratios, (489 case, sure grip) While wiggling the case to try to clear the mufflers this fell to the floor. Any idea what it is and where it goes? Covered in gear oil so it did come out of the pumpkin. It is not threaded.

Thank you sir, looking at the sure grip assembly I can see where they go now. Unfortunately I have the unit completely unassembled and ready for the new bearings and gears but I did not find a second one, and it is not lodged inside the unit. Since this one fell out with the assembly it is likely this one was not in place either. Do you know where I source these?

Does the axle have "Green Axle Bearings" on the axles? If so, the thrust buttons are removed for them. If the axle bearings are original tapered bearings with an adjustor on one side to adjust endplay, they are required to be there.

Look inside of your axle tube. It might be in there if it fell off.

The pictured item is one third of the thrust block, or spacer, set. As noted, it is to take axle side thrust and mounts in the pinion shaft of a Powr Lok differential in the 8-3/4" rear axle.

Two similar looking pieces are held together by a pin as shown in the following image:

After the halves are inserted in the pinion shaft, and the pin placed in the halves, the end of the pin is peened to hold the spacer halves. The pin can lose its grip and the spacer halves can fall out when the axles are removed.

The original set part number is 2881313, but is discontinued at Chrysler. The following image shows the original 2881313 instructions:

The Dana Spicer part number is 26386X, but is apparently discontinued too. It might be found still in stock at a Spicer distributor.

How do you identify Green Axel Bearings? I see no color on them but they are not tapered. There does appear to be an adjusting ring on the passenger side axel only, found the second thrust button by feeling around in the third member housing.
