guys, ive been fighting this damn hurst promatic 2 shifter from day 1, never reliable, never know what gear im in for sure, neutral can never be found ect..... tried adjusting this thing 3 times with a few seasoned vets and they chalk it up to slop in the ratcheting mechanism,,,, that being said summit said just pick a new one out and we will send it right away "AWSOME customer service"
so....which one do you guys recommend? im totally over the rachet shifter idea but I also don't want something I can push to far and accidently go into neutral or miss a shift if I am ever manually shifting which I wont be much, but you get the drift....
my thoughts are between the cheetah....winters.... or one of those quarter stick type jobs, only kicker is it needs to mount "somewhat" like the old one did due to the center counsel.

I've had best luck with the B&M Quicksilver
I had one in my last 68 RR too, for over 10 years trouble free,
I did lube it a couple times out of precautionary measures, not sure if it actually needed it...

Just keep the cable in a wide arch, no tight bends & away from the headers...

not the best for racing maybe but trouble free on the street in several cars,
never had any issues at the track or tech either...

You can have a forward or reverse pattern too

I had one, inside a 68 B-Body Console "sort of" too
thru the OE hole area ,top plate removed & used the B&M trim cut down to fit

I've tried a bunch of different new trick best of the best {not} ones over the years
& I keep going back to the Quicksliver...

Not the most expensive or the best maybe, but I stick with what I know works,
that hasn't stranded me or fell apart, we'll see I have a new one for my current 68 RR too...

sure wish I had a few more chime in!, I think im gonna try the tci outlaw, I should do like you stated and run a dang quicksilver and be done, but hell, if its free im gonna give it a try, if that don't work i'm going to buy a quicksilver and never look back

Love my B&M pro ratchet, though I love t even more now with my reverse manual valve body. Used to have to ratchet 5 times to get from P to 1, or back, now only 3 times. Big difference on the street.

I'm with Budnicks, the B&M Quicksilver is a great street friendly ratchet shifter. I hate grabbing knobs, levers, etc so having the lockout where simply lifting the whole handle makes more sense to me.

Had one in my Charger while it was still an auto and never missed a skip, perfect shifts everytime.

Cheetah, hands down, basically a gate shifter. You never need to worry about the little indicator like on a rachet shifter...you will know positively which gear and won't slip up to nuetral

I had good luck with the old Hurst Quarter-stick $269 too,
they have a newer version with a pistol grip $362

mopower871 is that a manual valve body or regular?
hay mike, its manual reverse pattern cheetah shifter's are nice (gated) no ratchet .comes with a heavy duty cable also.i had a b&m pro stick , quarter stick.. the cheetah is built like a brick **** house and if you decide you want a different shift pattern ,they sell the different plates easy install

I love my quarter stick. I wrapped the cable with header wrap and layers of that 3M heat foil tape. Never had an issue and never miss a shift. Fits my console well too.

Easy, if you want a bullet proof shifter, go with Winters/Art Carr Sidewinder.

One of my cousins has a 73 Nova with a quicksilver. I got to drive it around the house once, and it felt great. I was going to buy one for my Charger, but I've gone the route of swapping it to an 833 Stick.
