My Father called me last Wednesday as I got home from work at 4pm and says, hey go on that website and see if there is anything about a fire near the cabin... I went to socalmoutains.com (forum) and bensweather.com (has a web cam pointed towards the area the cabin is) and sure enough, there is a column of smoke near his place.. Look further and crap it is about a half a mile from him.. He hangs around till about 7 and bugs out.. Better to leave while you can do it calmly.. well it blew up quick and ate up acreage at a great rate as the wind blowing hard to the East. So we spent the 3 days watching the news and the websites..

Well it looks like we are out of the "woods" with the Lake Fire. This was way to close.. If you want to know how close it was, look at the farthest eastern point of the fire and follow the stream North to just past Jenks Lake rd. and our group of cabins is right there.

Good to hear. Choppers were dropping the red stuff on the hillside next to my community last year. Once that happens, you "get" it. We are usually up-wind and have been lucky so far.

Man that's way to close .
We had a huge fire out here by us years ago maybe 6-7 years ago anyways it was real bad some Dick head threw a cigarette butt out the window in a heavily wooded area (residential) and poof I think it was some 20-25 house burnt down and tons of trees it was a huge mess ,it was such a new area there was no fire hydrants yet and we were in the middle of a dry spell. Anyways a friend of mine lived out there and the fire literary came right up to his flower patch next to his house (burnt the paint off his house) but never damaged it he got real lucky .

Here is a site with up to date information for all large fires throughout the country. http://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/4302/ . A little late now but if you have not looked at Firewise it has excellent information for preparing your property to better survive a fire. It is shaping up to be a very busy year in the west this Summer! Western WA is already having fires, something that usually happens in late July or August...

So far so good, I surely don't need that again so soon,
we had a huge fire just over the ridge in Yosemite that took out 400k acres or something
It's going to be a bad year in Calif.
we just had a fire down in Escalon, Oakdale area

We had a bad one just up the hill/mountain by Twain Harte last year too,
my Aunts place, that I take care of was right in the path,
thank god the fire crews got it under control...

I hope no big ones this year up here, far took much dry undergrowth

Derwud I hope you guys are all OK,
living in the foothills/mountains is pure joy, but fire is always a real fear too

My Dad lives in the Foothills of Monrovia, CA and I have watched water dropping aircraft and helicopters fly just over his house close enough to see the color of the pilots eyes... My In-Laws lost their house way up in Azusa Canyon in Sept. 02 and almost lost another house a few later in the big fire storm in Running Springs, CA. My almost Sister-in-law came as close as you can to loosing her house in Oakhurst when almost every other house on her block burned down, except hers.
I hate fire season....

Glad everyone and the camps are out of danger! That was close!
