wheel size and clearance

My 71 Satellite came with large bolt pattern ralleye's. I want to pick up a 2nd set of wheels.
I really like the look of the cop tires w/ chrome lugs and/or dog dishes.
What's the widest rim/tire I can go in the rear under stock quarters?

On a side note, what's your opinions on painting wheels to match car...I am leaning towards gloss black w/ raised white letters..

I like the look of the set up the ralleyes have now:
Front tire size: 215 70 R15
Rear tire size: 275 60 R15

I am not sure the wheel width..
Can i just go with 15x8 rears...or should i go 15 x10??

I'm interested to hear as well. I'm thinking about picking up some wheels to put street slicks on so I can swap back and forth to play around with down the line.

The best (and ONLY) way to be sure is to get (or make) a plumb-bob, straight-edge, and a tape measure and measure it for yourself. People can tell you what will fit to a point, but there's only one way to be absolutely sure.
Theres also a handy tool available to help with tire sizing and from there, determining rim width. When you get through crunching the numbers and your new wheels show up they'll look like they were made for your car because, well...they were.

A 15x10 will fit but you need some serious backspacing.

In your response to painting the wheels to match the car, I'm not sure how the factory did it in '71--they might've been black. I know in the 60's, many manufacturers painted the wheels the same color as the body. My tire sizes are 225-70-15 on 15x7 in front and 275-60-15 on 15x8 in the rear. I had the cop car dog dish caps chromed for a different appearance. Good luck, Bob
