Where have all the four doors gone? 1968 Satellite

That car in Texas for $2000 looked pretty good. With fuel prices the way they are, don't assume you can't afford to ship.

The FB ad has more photos and a video. Were it a 2 door, people would ask at least 5 times that much. That thing is pretty clean.

78 Newport might follow me home this eve/or sun a.m.

4 door B body cars were cheap transportation up until the early 00’s. When they hit the junkyards, they were great parts cars for the more desirable 2 door versions. They served their purpose.

pretty clean big block 400/727, original 80k miles

If you find any, I have a set of headliner bows for one that were sent to me by mistake. I would hate to throw them away…

I've got a theory, the classic car industry is aging out rapidly and younger generations who have no idea what they have, meaning the lesser valued 4 doors or lesser desired if you will than their 2 door counterparts, end up waaaaay over priced because they're comparing them to the 2 doors value. I've seen some absurd pricing on 4 doors with no rarity and even 2 doors piles of trash some that don't even have a title.

I think youre right, and Jay Leno agrees. He's commented on this several times on Jay Lenos Garage and he is featuring more and more 80's and 90's cars now because the demographics are changing.
What is happening is that all of the older folks who remember the 50s and 60s cars are aging out of the Hobby and divesting themselves of their collections. So there are a lot of really nicely restored cars coming onto the market with insanely High asking prices and fewer and fewer buyers. Jay said that younger folks want the cars they have memories of wanting or grew up seeing on tv and so consequently 80s and '90s cars are skyrocketing in value. He pointed out that somebody recently paid $200,000 plus dollars for a 93 Toyota Supra that had 500 miles on it, and that there was a fox body Mustang a Type R I believe that sold for over 137,000. Jay commented that the same thing happened to the guys his dads age who used to collect and restore model A's and T's. Nobody's buying those cars anymore and nobody is restoring them. He said he knows there's a lot of fully restored ones sitting around now with no buyers because younger people simply aren't interested in those cars.
He predicted that prices of 50's and 60's cars will gradually decline as more come onto the market as their owners age out of the Hobby and there are feew buyers.
Its kind of like the antique bussiness.nobody's buying Victorian furniture anymore and it used to be very hot. Now it's mid-century stuff and even that's slowly fading away now as the market has become saturated and people are moving on to 80s and 90s postmodernism/Memphis group style now

View attachment 1969614View attachment 1969615My every day car. Been so since 2014. 383/727 factory. The salt is rapidly disintegrating it. But at least I can say I daily drive a Big Block B body in 2026.
Nice car. I am glad I live where it doesnt rust. You are braver than me. I wont even drive my cars within 10 miles of the beach! Lol. Rust is the enemy. Most of my cars are 318's,have one 383 car and it gets 8mpg. Cant use that as a daily driver unless you have Jerry Seinfeld money.

Nobody here is denying that the 2dr hardtops are nicer looking cars. I would love to have a two-door 68 satellite one day provided it is stock and had a 318 and air conditioning. But for a daily driver the four doors have a big advantage in that they are still very atteactive, far, far less likely to be stolen, less likely to have flipper guys bothering you ever day leaving notes and asking if its for sale. They are less desirable therefore far less expensive. Are sturdier, more solid, the extra doors are nice for if you have a family or take friends places or want to put packages into the back. Another huge advantage is that the four doors were never monkeyed with for the most part, they didn't pass through a series of teenage hands,or get modified by Beavis and Butthead types and had speaker holes cut in the doors and have somebody who didnt know what they were doing clowning around with the motor adding different carburetors and intakes, putting stupid aftermarket gauges in the dash, swapping seats from other cars. Putting hood pins and goofy spoilers for looks,or stupid looking aftermarket steering wheels. I like cars stock. I think the designers knew best and are beautiful untouched. I know others may not share that opinon, though. But my point is that those types dont chase after four doors and modify them. The four doors were dads cars and and generally speaking got left alone.
Im not interested in a big block car. What was considered fast back then is no longer fast today, and it's easy for somebody with a 440 or a 383 to get their butt handed to them by any clown in a Tesla,or some kid in a new mustang.
Ive always liked the late 50's early 60's cars best, and none of those were ever fast anyway. I never cared about that. I just loved the beautiful designs and they way they rode. None of us are in a race each day. We are just going to work, running errands, etc. I have no desire to race kids in far faster modern cars at the light, risk wrecking a car, breaking parts etc. My enjoyment comes from driving them daily like they were when they were new.

I’ve been driving a 4 door ‘68 Satellite as my only transportation since 2014. I can’t go two days without someone asking if it’s for sale. It’s an interesting car, but the roof, windshield, vent wings and doors being 3” higher than the 2 door… it just looks like an old man car. Besides, while my Dad had a brand new ‘68 4 door, it was the 2 door H/T that I lusted for. It looks overwhelming better to me. And as far as having my *** handed to me, the 383 surprises most of the SUV’s that think they are going to pull a right hand pass. Besides, I’m 60 yo, and even when I was younger I just drove and let all the others go by.
