Which Different heads?

with the 270 cam and other parts listed i wouldn't be afraid to use the 516 heads. just get them properly prepped and go for it.

If you have the 2 barrel pistons that are .120" down in the hole, you're not going to have any low end with any cam bigger than stock. If you are running a stock intake, you're not going to pull hard above 4600ish. the heads you have will out flow a iron intake. Changing head will not do much. Just MO.

Do you know what rear gears are in it now.

I had a '64 383 2bbl. Had plenty of snot in it stock but I wanter more.
Bolted on a set of second hand 516 heads, used a mild 460/280 crowler cam, 4bbl carb and intake and a 456 rear gear. That car did mid 13's all day long with a stock converter. Terrible launch with that converter and the weight of that car.

I'm thinking your gearing might be holding your engine back some. A 383 is a badass engine with simple parts and a good tune.

If you want to go out and blow the doors off of some of these newer cars out there, you're going to have to match their horse power. $$$

Yea I actually have the 2.94 stock gears in it for now Khryslerkid. The last thing to rebuild on the drive line is that diff/gearing, just hasn't gone out yet like the trans and motor finally did. Im probably going to go with 3.73 gears and know the big difference that will make. I don't want to go to low on the gearing because I want to be able to take long highway drives in it without the higher rpm etc..Years ago I had a 68' hyped up Cougar with 3.25 gears then went to 3.73 gears and the car felt 500 pds lighter.

Them 2:93's are low compaired to most of trooper crusiers of the day with 2:76. But most had high tourque 440's. Most of todays top fuelers are in the 3:00 range. It just takes more power and the right combination of parts.
