I have the opportunity to buy a #3 '69 roadrunner convertible that is numbers matching or a #2 roadrunner hardtop numbers matching.

The hard top has a beautiful body, super straight and smooth, wet sanded, all original panels, no rust and is a 383 with air grabber.

The convertible has a nice body but would need some panel alignment and a cut and buff at a minumum to get in the #2 range. It has a 383 with no air grabber.

The interior on both are about equal.
The convertible has more documentation but neither has a build sheet. The convertible just wasnt restored to as high a level as the hard top overall.

Cost is equal on both in the low $30's.

What would you prefer?

i would prefer a super bee.......because i already have a road runner with an air grabber.....(thats a joke) id go for the hard top...are these both 69's?????

I like them both but would look for a 440 car for that kind of money. The GTX came with a 440 and is identical body style. Just something to think about. There out there. Good luck.

If the vert just needs paint sand and buff, all else is equal, that is what I would be looking at! But then again...

:worthless_thread:

I have a friend who has an original # matching 69 GTX with a correct 6 pac set-up on it in excelent shape for less than that. It has always been in Texas area so no rust.

Your friends car is a 440 6pac. This is kinda what I was getting at in my comment earlier to CITADEL. Deals are out there to be found. Thanks.

The ragtop, a lot less ragtops made. When the top goes down thw price goes up.

I agree and also the GTX hardtop or rag top in like condition as a RR sells for LESS money with the bigger engine today. The GTXs also have a nicer interior and exterior trim. They were "gentlemen's hot rods" when new. The young guys couldn't affor the higher price or the insurance when they were new.

I havent seen a nice GTX that is numbers matching in the low $30's... I have been on ebay, oldrides, etc....

For the 2 cars you are describing, it sounds like the convertible is the better deal. There are several very nice 69 RR hardtops for sale right now between $21k and $25k. The convertibles' value is closer to the mid 30's asking price.

the one in the link above was on ebay a couple weeks back and I spoke with the owner... I asked him about a fender tag and he didnt seem to be familar with what that was.... I asked for photos of the numbers off the block, tranny and rear end and never heard back...

The guy does not know what a fender tag is (WOW ). I will say this much. you will probably want to check the car out yourself. I bought my # matching car and had to crawl my a$$ under, over and every inch of it before I bought it and I only paid 6k ( we work hard for are money ). I had to run the #,s on it myself. YOU CANT TRUST ANYBODY ( See the thread were the guy got ripped of on the 68 Charger with the bad bank draft ). I know he is vague on his knowlege but if it is for real for that amount of money and you want it. Bug the crap out of him till you get the answers your looking for. Good luck.

I agree that for the money the ragtop is the better deal (investment).
For a 383 hardtop to bring that money it better bee really really nice!

Hi,

I would take the Cv above the HArdtop. Way more rare.
What colours do the cars have?
What transmissions?

Carsten

convertible is yellow with the matte black hood paint with AT
the hardtop is green with 4 speed

when the top goes down, the price goes up.

The same can be said for women....

where was I?

Go for the convertible.

Converti, not many out there now. Car of the year for 69 and a rag top? no question. you can always have work done on it and just increase it's value.

I would buy the convertible. Especially if it is complete and a a true conv.

I already have a 69 post.

Randy

just bought it... awaiting the shipping company to deliver
