They think they have found a Japanese sub off Coffs Harbour

That would be a rare find. I wonder if it actually took damage and sank or if something else happened.
The study focuses on the I-178, a KD7 class submarine, which was declared lost in 1943. The submarine was involved in attacking Allied ships and may have been bombed by Australian air force planes southwest of Coffs Harbour. An oil slick was also observed off Nambucca Heads the following day.
