Well a few days back I picked up an entire new driveline for my Roadrunner; 360, 727, 8 3/4 with a 489 case. Included in the deal the gentleman gave me a driveshaft out of a 69 RR auto. I know the wheelbase is a shorter on the older B-bodies, but will the driveshaft work or will I have to keep hunting for one with the correct length?
Thanks in advance guys!

works if you put it on the car.....

Why not slide it into the transmission tailshaft and see how the length works out?

You won't know until you try to put it in the car. I've given up taking peoples' words about what something is. :) The shaft he gave you might have been from a '69 Roadrunner. It might be from a '74 Challenger. Guys get parts here and there and forget what they came from or the person they got them from had it wrong. I bought a SB 727 that was marked 68 Roadrunner that obviously didn't come from a Roadrunner but was also a much later trans.

Slide it in, check the length, and proceed accordingly.

It costs under 100 dollars to shorten a driveshaft, new joints and balance the shaft, so why worry. If it is too short, then you can worry.

Thanks guys, I'll just check it come spring/whenever I can get my new drivetrain rebuilt and in the car!

According to my 1971 f.s.m. the correct drive shaft length, measuring from center point of the front bearing bore to the center point of the rear bearing bore should be 50.68". This is with a 727 and an 8 3/4" rear. To my knowledge, all 71 - 74 hardtops have the 115" wheelbase so this number should be correct for your car.

I hops this helps.
