Will the 66, 67 factory unsilenced four barrel air cleaner fit a 1407 Edelbrock carb? I measure the Edelbrock air horn at 4 1/8”+. Would like to rid the car of the aftermarket chrome open element air cleaner.

Not at 4 1/8. Think you better remeasure.

You have to change base plate for larger carb throat. You should be able to pick up aftermarket one at a speed shop, Summit, or Jeg's. I have done that on my R/T, also with Eddie 1407.

Edelbrock is around 5 1/8 not 4 1/8.
66/67 Carbs are much smaller.

You can use a base plate from an unsilenced 68/69 air cleaner with the 66/67 top to form an unsilenced air cleaner. I did that for years with an Edelbrock air cleaner on my 67 GTX.

I just changed out the factory closed base plate for an open drop base and a taller filter. My top is the 67 dual snorkel, but it is the same basic cover. I just checked hood clearance and should have enough room to be able to use the stock 68-69 unsilenced base. My project for this weekend.

The factory air filters are 13 inch diameter, while most of the aftermarket ones are 14 inch diameter. There are two Mopar filter heights as well. The one shown is about 3/4 inch taller than the standard 68-69 filter. I believe it was stock on the later model 440 air cleaners.

I hate it when that happens to me. I just beg off on the basis of sometimers.
