Probably more like exhale. The hole for the breather vent on the stock rocker cover, is 1 7/16. The tube from this vent goes to the base oft the new Edelbrock carb. The new rocker covers, 495 I think, have a hole that is 1 1/4. None of the Dodge breather units fit. But, Edelbrock has breather units, but with no fitting for the tube. They are also chrome.
Other places make a 1 1/4 breather unit, with the tube attaching fitting.
So, do I use the non tube unit, or the tube to the carb unit. 77 318.
The 540 engine I looked at last weekend, had both rocker cover tubes, going to a box and a small air filter thing. Not to the carb. I suspect the fumes from the engine to the carb, are part of the cleaner air idea.
I may be slow to reply, we are heading the ocean tomorrow, loaded with camping and fishing stuff.

The 540 probably had a oil reclamation device. You need a gromet for a PCV valve to vent to intake system on the engine, especially for a street engine. The opposite valve cover needs a screened breather for intake of air.
