Windows 10 Support Ending - So Sick of Windows

I'm sure many of you are aware that Windows 10 Support is ending 10/14/2025.
I have 2 desk tops and 2 laptops, none of them meet the hardware requirments for Win 11.
I've already switched 1 laptop to Linux. I guess I'll spend some time this weekend and switch the 2 desktops to Linux.
I think I'll keep the other laptop on Win 10 and pull the WiFi card. I have at least 1 windows app that's not available for Linux.

I'm just really sick of being manipulated by Microsoft.
Win 10 is so bloated only 1 of these PC's runs on it half decent.
 
Just had to do the new version yesterday. Well my wife did it. I rarely use my laptop for anything other than emails and online searches and ordering. Since retiring no more need Word, Excel, PP.
One day I should delete the 1000's of work files, reports, photos, but never think of it.
 
I agree about how manipulative Microsoft is with its requirements for the Windows 11 platform. The mere fact that they are either forcing users to upgrade to a compatible machine, if their present one doesn't meet the upgrade requirements, or if it does, upgrade to OS 11. You can get an extended license to extend the support for 1 year, but why spend the extra when it will only be for 1 year and 1 year only? I have 3 desktops and 1 laptop, and none will support the Windows 11 upgrade. So I will otherwise have to purchase new compatible Windows 11 machines...I have done so and just waiting to set them up...or just keep running the Windows 10 units until??? I am not going to migrate to a Linux OS as I do not want to take the chance of losing the usage of any of them due to compatibility issues, so Windows it will have to be. Microsoft should just quit FOOKING with their OS as they do, and leave it the simpler way alone. Mandating that users must do this and that is the most Draconian logic I have ever encountered, but Dammit!!! What is one to do??? cr8crshr/Bill :usflag: :usflag: :usflag:

I've used linux on my personal and work computers for over 20 years. It's so nice not having to put up with windows bullshit. If you have a decently powered desktop you can run linux and then install a program called virtualbox. It will allow you to install windows and run it like a program from within your linux destkop. Sometimes i run multiple operating systems at the same time for testing purposes.

I have a PC tower & 21" monitor, one in my office,
my former BIL built specifically for me & my business
I still use a lot
lots of great old programs, on Windows 7-pro still runs everything great
it was done/no support some 15 or so years ago
still get antivirus stuff too, no big deal
it's still working just fine,
I won't give that one up 'until it literally dies/fries'
 
Well on one of my machines I did the one year of updates, ESU, Extended Security Update. It was free for me and many others depending on use case. When the year is up on that one it will have its WiFi turned off, it has some Ford tuning software so it will just live for that task, at least until the Ford goes.
It was my daily driver but I replaced it with the base model MacBook Air.
My other machine was switched over to Ubuntu Linux, its main purpose is a Plex server and will hopefully be fine for years.

Depending on what phones you have you can have a PC experience with them, connection to a reg monitor with keyboard and mouse. Mainly the better Samsung phones from the last few years and iPhones allow it. May not need a cable if you want to use a Roku tv as a monitor.

All that said I miss Windows 95 with XP in second place.

Windows 11 can be installed on somewhat outdated computers but there are requirements to be met. You need to have Secure Boot and TPM 2.0 enabled in BIOS, no matter what. If your processor/BIOS is too old, these options may not exist. However, the CPU processor and hardware check can be bypassed with a registry hack.

In Windows, hit Start and type regedit, then hit enter to launch the Registry Editor. Navigate to Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup\MoSetup, either by pasting that whole address into the box just beneath “File, Edit, View, Favorites, Help” or by drilling down through the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and System and Setup and MoSetup folders one at a time.

Click on MoSetup on the left, and in the right pane, right-click and select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value. Name the value “AllowUpgradesWithUnsupportedTPMOrCPU” minus the quotes. Double-click on the new value you created, and enter 1 into the Value data field. Hit OK and close the registry editor.

Windows 11 typically fails to install on any CPU older than an 8th generation Intel Core i-Series processor, but I've successfully installed Win 11 on several computers with Gen 6 and 7 processors that met the aforementioned Secure Boot and TPM 2.0 requirements. Don't bother if your system is too old, i.e. running 8 GB or RAM or below a 2 GHz processor.

Disclaimer: I take no responsibility for the methods shared here. If you aren't sure what you're doing, make a backup of your Registry. If you don't know how to do that, I wouldn't suggest proceeding.

I updated a few months ago to an official licensed version of Windows 11 after watching 1 of 100s of YouTube videos on the subject. My PC was allegedly incompatible with the update but everything went well.

No BIOS hacks or other nonsense.


 
I actually believe the latest ISO installer of Win 11 doesn't outright deny installation on hardware that's a little below the requirements, but includes a disclaimer stating that it's not recommended, unsupported, blah-blah...but allows you to click "Install anyway" or some-such...but you gotta have Secure Boot and TPM 2.0 enabled.

You needed the BIOS hacks up until quite recently, as M$ flat-out prohibited installing on all hardware that wasn't up to their arbitrary specs.

Me too...on the garage computer and my laptop. Still the best damn OS MS ever put out.
