Windshield wiper blades when did they get so expensive

Dealers replace only the inserts. Not sure how to get them wholesale in small quantities though.

Thats what I thought, but on the chevy I can't see how it could be done, on the jeep it looks easy, the blade is held on by metal clips, on the chevy and toyota it looks like they don't come apart..

Its not as easy as it looks, lol. I am not ashamed to say it takes a little thought to change new wiper blades I think the old ones were much easier.. I thought I broke a one, they are cheap plastic junk clips and fastener systems.

The easiest way for me (depending on vehicle) is to remove the arm. Then replace the insert.

You can find inserts occasionally, but their not like they used to be.

Rubber is separate from the guide rails and it's a royal PITA to try to get them all in at the same time.

It's usually worth the $10 an hour in labor to just buy them assembled.

I wonder why they changed the dimension so you can't use the new style refills in the old style holder.

I'm actually working on a way to get the new refills to work in the hard to fit 71-74 hidden wiper holder.

Not down here. I rarely sold inserts to the dealers in my area. The dealer would just buy the complete blade, snap them on, and charge their customer the few bucks extra the complete blade cost.

I usually go to A Z to get wipers. They put them on for you for free if you want. The last time I got wipers for my truck (about 5 months ago) they had a sale, buy one, get one free. About 22 bucks for both. I should have bought some for my other vehicles.

I replaced blades recently on a Friend's Buick......hadn’t done blades for quite some time before that. Went to an auto zone thinking I'd get the rubber refills & it would cost about 15.00. No straight refills of course & the blades were 30 & change....woke me up. Since only one blade on car was bad, I only replaced it.
I'm still pissed about headlights...I was just fine with universal buckets & replacing sealed beams @ 5.00 a pop....& they were GLASS!! Horrible, horrible.

Agree.. I have a 98 dakota pu. The plastic cover on the headlights is a mess. I polished it a couple of times and that does not last long.
A replacement is the entire assembly at several hundred dollars each. --eek

Yup....aftermarket(never fits)light boxes for 08 era toy corolla **** boxes were around 110.00 a pop @jobbers mark down.....what a shop I worked at was paying,,,for the newer salvage cars we built back up. Mercedes?¡!?! Well north of a grand for OEM for their base models I imagine.
Are You sanding the lenses first? If they're really yellow, start in @ least 400 wet with a semi firm pad. When runoff turns white, then start back up in grit. I usually just go from 400 to 600 to 1000 & call it good. Then a light compound with polisher, medium rpm,,, 1st with a wool wheel to cut out scratches, followed by a foam wheel @ low rpm & sparing compound. Nu-Finish(great stuff) by hand afterward with microfibres.
Acrylic lenses can come out crystal.....poly carbon gets a lot better but stays slight milky.
