Decided to take the Roadrunner to the library today...washed him yesterday and it is such a beautiful day today so with Wiley Coyote in the passenger seat off we went...got about a mile down the road and noticed in the mirror a car rapidly approaching...kind of thought it was a cop and sure enough I could see the roof light bar...the state patrol got some new Caprice patrol cars recently,it appeared to sit very low to the ground... WSP.jpg...kerthunk goes the heart...I just knew he was going to light me up...he followed me about six miles until I turned off for the library...he continued on his way but I still was kinda nervous...I do not know why...I was not speeding...so is it just me or do you guys get the chills when you are followed by the law? Marla

Not really unless I'm haulen' butt, than I'm extremely nervous about what type fine or how much my insurance will go up.... hasn't happened in over 6 years now {the other, most recent one, was 10 years before that}, last 1 I got a 74-mph in a 65-mph zone going down a long hill & didn't want to keep on riding or pumping the brakes, the Calif. Hwy patrol wasn't buying my reasoning, went to traffic school to get it removed... In my late teens/early twenties, I got so many damn tickets, for stupid stuff & fix it ticket crap, me & the Contra Costa Co. Sheriff, Concord Cops or the Eldorado Co. Sheriff or Calif. Hwy Patrol {Ernie Hill, local guy}, when in HS, were all on a first name bases...

where I live in my little subdivision, we have 3 Calif. Hwy Patrol, 2 Co. Sheriff's deputies & I live next door to a Game Warden... I get along great with all of them too...

Usually ain't bothered by cops but I got stopped about 10 years ago for doing 5 over, 12:30 at night on my way home from work. It was a brand new road and well lit and NO ONE else was on it besides us and the bastard wrote me up. Some wet behind the ears young punk newbie. I now drive through there and will go 10 under if there's any cops behind me and if I can, will drive in the right lane and pace someone going the same speed that's in the other lane :D Had one cop boxed in until he got sick of it and turned on his lights for the guy in the left and I nailed my brakes. It confused the other guy but the cop only wanted to get by. Screw that little hick town....

Yup,
To this day, I get the same feeling as you do.
And, I am on the "straight & narrow" VERY sensitive job etc.

But yeah Marla, I get the tightening in the stomach, anxiety overcomes me etc.

Think it's funny that guy's cars are usually referred to as girls and women's cars are usually guys...lol The wife calls her Cadillac "The Dude".

Good to hear they didn't pull you over. Hate it when cops are behind me as well.

Problem being is if you're doing the speed limit they ride your *** cause they want to go faster

Heck "the man" is always holding me down anyway, so I'm just use to it and no longer get nervous.

I have to say, I've spent a lot of time being the perp, lol. Now I work for a police dept. in the garage! It took a long, long time need to panic walking into a room full of cops. Now I don't get roughed up for mouthing off to them! Turns out they are people too, just doin' a job. Many of them appreciate cool vehicles & hot women!

Of course there are those that love to show who has the power & be a dick...just like some civilians do.

i have more family member engraved PBA cards than i know what to do with...and I still get nervous when they roll up on me..
he was probably just checking out your car!

They don't bother me as much as they used too. When I was younger, I lost my license 3 out of 5 years when I first got it.

Got several tickets when I was a teen too. Made a right turn on red in front of a cop once when it wasn't legal...burnout in front of a cop....street racing and the list goes on. Never lost my license but was sweating it a couple of times. Was let go on the street racing deal :D probably because I let off right after I power shifted 2nd gear. The guy I picked on was WAY faster then me but he kept on going after I gave up (my car was real quiet too which isn't normal for me lol) and the cops had plenty on him by the time they caught up with him.

At 58 years old, I still get yancy when I get followed. Last weekend, while on the way to visit the in-laws, driving my 2001 Corvette, we met a KHP. As we went by one another he brakes and makes a u-turn and follows me for 10 miles, before he turns back around. I was on pins and needles the entire time he was back there. Even though I was all legal it was nerve racking for him to follow me for that distance.

Whenever that happened to me, I would always bark a gear. I hate it when cops follow or tail gate. Doing that will get one of two responses. Either they'll go ahead and pull you or just leave you alone.

By the way, the several KHP are driving "hot Tahoes" . These Tahoes can run 155mph, according to one of the officers (and former student of mine).

I remember back in the day, when I had my '73 Roadrunner, whenever there was a cop around, he would follow me for a few miles. Sometimes all the way to my driveway and keep going as I turned in. Luckily never got stopped. I wonder what will happen when my Charger hits the streets.

WSP is getting pretty sneaky about their unmarked cars. On the way back from Oregon I saw a guy pulled over on I-5 by a gray WSP Chevy Silverado extended cab pickup. No light bar, no markings, no aerials, no nothing. Glad it wasn't me. Doesn't seem fair man.

ugh

back in high school the local yokels used to pull me over left and right, they got me in my '66 one night in town, wasn't speeding or anything... he asked if I knew why he pulled me over, I said, "No, not really..."

he replies with "yer not wearing a seatbelt"

I look down at my lapbelt that's secured around me and say "I'm not?"

".......have a good night sir"

What gets me going is cruising down the hwy or street doing just a tad over the limit and suddenly see a cop with a radar gun. I've gotten good at not jabbing the brake to show a sudden change in speed but just lift the right foot and hope for the best. I always pass them doing 5 over in a 65 or maybe a couple over in a 40 and they don't bother me at all (knocking on wood as I type). Years ago I was told by a CHP that we are legally allowed 3 MPH over the limit for speedometer error but have no idea if that still holds.

At times I do run through a mental check list of what I just did as a cop suddenly pulls up behind me but most likely his arrival is just a coincidence. I have also noticed when I drive one of my relics of automotive history that it's not only the general public that takes notice! So I must be extra careful what I do. That means no running through a minimum of two gears with tires smoking while looking through the side window!

I got that a time or two. Offcifer (really didn't say it like that), 66's didn't come with shoulder belts but my lap belt is connected. One time I got pulled over in my Dakota and took my belt off to get my license and insurance card out of my bill fold and the cop started to give me a ration of crap about it and told him what I did and he still gave me a ration. I then asked him what the law said about the wearing of seat belts and told him I unbuckled AFTER I came to a stop to get out my license and ins card and the stuff was in my hand when he walked up to my window. He shut up after that. I generally don't have problems with cops but when they display an attitude when I'm nice, my attitude changes very quickly too.
