Title says it all. Well, most of it. I'm looking for a 68-70 B-Body decent driver car. A Road Runner, Satellite, GTX, Coronet, Super Bee, Belvedere, or Charger.
I would also consider as a second option a decent 71-74 big block Charger.
The story goes, my father used to own both a 68 and a 70 Road Runner (383 w/ Air Grabber), and two dreadful days in the late 70's he came home from work to people buying them in his yard. You can guess that the marriage didn't last...
So I'm attempting to buy him a gift for his birthday this year that will give him that nostalgic feeling of the Mopar muscle he's been pining for ever since, and make him feel like a carefree 20-something again, cruising on the weekends in his rumbling big block. He is now retired and lives on a fixed income, which means he will never be able to afford another hot rod for himself.
I've been researching these cars to death and browsing the For Sale forum here for about a year now. There are just so many intricacies in terms of trim level, VIN codes, paint codes, transmissions, rear ends etc., etc., the list goes on.
What it's come down to, is I am looking for a good driver quality car that does not need a ton of work. A little work could be ok given my budget range. But replacing all the body panels, trim, interior, frame rails, trunk, floors, rebuilding the engine, and replacing the entire dash, gauges, and electrical system on your "project" that's been sitting outside in the northeast winters for 15 years is not. As much as I wish it were not the case, I just don't have the time, money, or mechanical abilities to do this sort of stuff. And I am not looking to really get into a project that needs 2 years of work and another $20k to get going, even if it will be a 1 of 1 when finished.
My budget for this venture is about $15k. (I know, laugh now.) But I am not looking for a one-of-a-kind #'s matching hemi car. I'm just looking for a solid weekend cruiser that is not in need of a total restoration. Satellite/Road Runner, Coronet/Charger/Super Bee clones would be fine. I'm not a diehard traditionalist or anything. An Air Grabber would be a HUGE bonus, but obviously not required.
Again, I don't need a show car. This is not an investment. Just looking for something that will put that smile back on my Dad's face. I've been saving money for this gift for him for quite a while now, and I'm ready to blow it because he deserves it. I know this is a stretch, but if there's any way that I could possibly make his dream come true, it's here on FBBO.
Thanks.
