Reminds me of the time long ago that my wife and I took my boat to the Keys with friends. My friend towed my boat with his Tahoe, as it was more comfortable than my pick up. As we hooked up the trailer to his vehicle, he asks did I check the lugs on the trailer. I told him no and he brings out this breaker bar and “tightens “ them real good. Everything was good for about 200 miles until we get a real bad vibration just before going over a bridge. We pulled off to check and one of the wheels was hanging on with just one lug nut. The hub was toast and we took off that wheel and limped over the bridge to where there was a boat ramp and launched the boat. I took the boat the remaining ten or so miles to the motel. I had a buddy then overnight me a new hub for my return home in a couple days.
So then, the return trip went well until after driving over 100 miles, we decided to get off 95 and get something to eat. We were on the exit ramp when there was a shudder and then a wheel, different one, passed us. Luckily, the wheel went off there and came harmlessly to a stop. Wound up replacing all the lugs after I got home.
I raced a guy at Sac Raceway in my 67 Camaro in the mid 80's running low 8's
he had a 67 (?) Mudstain fastback/sportroof 2+2 really nice car,
a guy from San Jose Ca., (?) after a Car Craft show from Cal Expo & later race
he broke the Heim joints on his ladder-bars front/both sides
snapped with no safety measures/retainers & his whole rear end came out from under it,
spun the rear like a damn top, it was wicked looking, I saw it in my mirror briefly
lucky I was way ahead
it was a fast Mudstain, on N2O but wasn't built right
(Pennington was the guys name IIRC)
