Favorite Car Ever?

I guess I mis-read the OPs idea on this as my response to this thread was regarding the favorite car that I have OWNED. As far as a favorite all time car, I doubt that I could narrow it down as there are SO MANY that I would love to own if money and a place to keep them all were not an issue. After all, how do you think people with unlimited finances become COLLECTORS?

I always admired and yet wondered about some of those gentleman at the auctions who are collectors and stand there and bid on cars that most dream of and buy them without the slightest hesitation. The money involved is unreal but the space to keep them i cant imagine. But to list all the cars i alone would like to own would take a page up.. I imagine all of us can have a page list of our favorites, to whittle it down to even 3 or 4 wouldn't be easy for any of us. But collectors next to someone who loves the car for what it is and what he loves about it is different, it loses translation with Favorite cars verses collecting them because of what they are.

I disagree.
I have been to the B-J auction for the last 28 of 29 years. I have rubbed elbows with some very big name collectors. I can tell you from my experience that the majority of them are just regular guys like you or I that LOVE these old cars just like we do. The only difference is that they get to LIVE the dream.

I hear people in different car forums dissing people that pay others to work on their cars or simply buy done cars as though those people couldn't possibly enjoy their cars as much as a guy that rebuilt his as a junkyard refugee. That is just sour grapes bullshit. That is like saying that someone that owns a painting can't possibly enjoy it much because they couldn't paint it themselves. Do we think that the guys that bought our cars new didn't enjoy them as much as we do because they bought them off the dealers lot?

I didn't mean to get you all worked up 696pack, i heard Mike Post speaking of these cars on one of the shows and telling us that they depreciate so many dollars if there driven more then ( im sorry forget mileage ) a year, and thought at the time that would be unreal to own these cars and not be able to drive them, or in some cases be afraid of wrecking one. Now i was agreeing with what you posted because of you saying "I would love to own if money and a place to keep them all were not an issue"..
With some can afford them and do have a place to keep them which some dream of having, By no means am i saying these guys shouldn't do it or not, just impressing that some do go in and buy what they want and enjoy there dream. I said i admire them for being able to and may-be i did word things wrong, but i imagine there are some collectors who do buy these cars and lock them away to resell at a later date. There is a lot of collectors with paintings with other things that as ive heard it called Invest in such things for the thought of making money down the line. With that said i do apologize for anything i said to upset you... We all should have our dreams and see them thru and i do admire people who can do just that. Ron.

You didn't upset me, I just didn't agree with you. Sometimes when I am typing it reminds me of other somewhat related things thatIi get off on a tangent.

Many collectors buy for mutiple reasons. Some drive them on a rotation basis often. Some buy because they like them but also think investment in the back of their mind. Some also have a limit to the room they have and often will give up one car for something that they like more. Many collections are "dynamic" and the inventory changes depending on what suddenly becomes available.

As far as miles being put on cars and depreciating, somewhat true as in normal where and tear on a resto. But more so with documented low mileage desireable models, they basically become trailer queens. Not something I would EVER be interested in buying. If I can't drive it when I want to, I don't want it.

In order: (I can't pick just one!)

1. Shelby Daytona Coupe
2. Ferrari 250 GTO
3. 63 Dodge 330 Max Wedge aluminum frontend lightweight car
4. SS Hemi Cuda
5. Ferrari 365 GTB4 Daytona Spyder.
6. DeThomaso Pantera
7. 69 1/2 6 pack Bee/Roadrunner
8. Cheetah
9. 427 S/C Cobra
10. '69 R/T Charger (B5 blue with a white top/interior)

Easy...69 1/2 440-6 Bee!

Thats what Im in the process of cloning. I simply dont have the money for a real one. Im happy with a driver clone.

Always wanted a nice lifted Jeep too to play around in the woods.

Now I have both....I rule!

Seriously though, 67 GTO would be high on the list.

I mentioned earlier that my favorite car was a 68 Shelby GT500 and today my wife and I went too a local car show and looky what I saw......

Your the second person to mention the graceful Ford Starliner. I'm surprised a car as nice as that does not bring in a higher dollar. I'll never understand way some cars do and some don't.

70 (non R/T) Charger, however 71 is a close second. Really 3rd gen Chargers rank pretty high overall and also the 71/2 GTX, RR, and Satelitte. And you gotta love the E bodies too. After that I have to give honorable mentions to the DeLorean DMC 12, Porsche 928 (that's the V8 one) and LS1/2 T/As and GTOs. Oh and the Viper!
