The roof on my 73 is pretty bad.
Scaly and pitted.
I'm using a 3M fiber wheel and a sandblaster.

When I did the 66, I didn't have a blaster, so it was just the fiber wheel.
The 66 wasn't nearly as bad, but there were black flecks that wouldn't come out no matter what. It's been painted for over a year, and is doing OK.

Some of the pits on the 73 roof blast pretty clean, but others stay black.
Not rust colored, just black. There are also those black flecks that don't even blast out/off.

Am I getting it clean enough?

I don't know the answer to that but if your worried use a converter like Rust Mort over the entire surface.

Those pits will erupt again. Sorry to say, that's pretty deep rust. Some very fine blasting media will take that out no problem. If you were sandblasting on the roof you're a brave soul. Usually sand is not small enough to blast in such small areas. Any good media blaster in your area should be able to get that out. I know I could. Good luck!

Use vingar and water and a wire wheel to bring it out. cheap and it works.

I would use Phosphoric acid soaked in a clean towel and let it sit on the areas covered with plastic over nite it will dissolve all the remaining rust very slowly. What ever you do, don't use Muriatic hydrochlric acid or Hydrogen chloride". These forms of acid will remove rust instantly but cause permant damage tot he metal. You can buy toilet bowl cleaners with Phosphoric acid that will do the trick.

Try using a wire wheel in a drill. All i know about rust repair is that no one can warranty rust repairs. Do the best you can do to get it all out and encapsulate it. And pray that some one makes a new roof skin so in 5-10-15-20years when it comes back. It can be cut out and replaced with new metal.

Gee guys, thanks for the help on my 360 day old (1 year) post.

My sandblaster nozzle was f'd up and it's doing much better now, however those little black flecks remain. My 66 roof paint is now almost 2 years old and still no issues.

I have started using acid rust etcher as well.
