Lansing Mayor speaks up for the working class

Very good points. Why should they work for 27 and hour. You'll starve on that pay here. That's closer to kids pay if anything. It may go far else where, but not here.

$27 bux an hour? geez.. that is awesome pay. sorry you live in a high cost area.. but if you made $27 an hour here in kansas.. you would be sitting high on the hog!

and I am sorry, but UAW is paying high school graduates more than people who are getting Master's and Doctorate's. For what? A comparable job with skills/duties is $12-$17 an hour at any other facility. The only difference is the union is pricing their workers out of jobs. Imagine if they all got paid 1/2 of what they get now.. do you think the car manufacturers will have to lay people off? Unions were a good thing during the industrial revolution (and they still have some positives), but nowadays they can be an enemy as much as a ally IMO.

*edit: that mayor is a moron: he speaks a good talk.. but his inability to focus on the questions made him look stupid. i agree with his argument, but not to the dramatic point he was trying to achieve*

he needs to run for president in 4 years. guys got common sense and not scared to say what he thinks.

We (the UAW worker) here in Detroit make a wage of about $27 and hour right now! The inflated #'s that everyone talks about (E.G. $70 and hour) is inflated to include our life ins., health ins. and a bunch of other stuff too! That is what has hurt us (U.S. auto industry) is the misinformation to the rest of the country by the media!

On a side note: About 1/3 of the people that I work with have some sort of degree and are working on the line!

i will trust you.. but until you show me some hard statistics from an unbiased source in regards to the type of degree and the percentage of degree holding employees.. i will not put too much stress on myself to recant my initial statement.

not trying to be a jerk mind you, i just like to deal with facts. i can bring up many vocations that require a MS degree and get paid far less than $27 an hour, let alone a BS degree.
