Was there any option/destinction that some 71-2 grilles had solid headlight surrounds, and some are just straight across?

interesting! i dont know the answer, but it looks pretty darn good! whats with the mini bumper on the corner there? kinda odd...

Only 72 RR's got the solid grille with the crossbar center section, one year only, only RR's. The 71RR/Sat's and 72 Sat's shared the same egg crate style grilles. That is one of the chin spoilers on that 72 RR, there is one on each side.

i do like the solid insert, however it takes away from the sinister look of the blackout...just my .02

What do you mean by the blackout? The Sat grille doesn't really have a blackout and the 72 RR grill resembles a 70 Cuda grille. I think the 72 RR grill is the best looking B-Body grille and the next best looking is the 69 Charger. The best looking and meanest Mopar grille of all has to be the 71 Cuda.

i just mean no separation...are the 72RR grills hard to find...i would assume so as i have rarely seen them. were they optioned or standard RR equiptment?

The 72 RR grilles were standard for 72 RR's and no other grille was available for a 72 RR. Yes, the 72 RR grilles are hard to find as they only built a little over 6,000 RR's in 72 and they are not reproduced and are very expensive if you find one. I am lucky enough to have me original 72 RR grille in good shape!

That's awesome..i would probably have that in a glass enclosure in my house, rather than on my car...all it takes is a dump truck in front of you, while your just going to get gas...

You might as well forget about getting one of those 72 grilles. Everyone that has one to sell has them insanely overpriced for a piece of brittle and broken hunk of plastic.

I saw someone selling just the center section on ebay for $2000. I thought about fabing my own from aluminum or carbonfiber. But we shall see on that.

How could anyone mess with this grille? The design of this grille has haunted me since I first laid my eyes on one back in 71’. Painted as it was originally to resemble the titanium air intake of a jet fighter, “The” best looking Mopar grille, bar none, IMO.

I love the grille, one of the best ever in my opinion. However, the road runner emblem has given me hell! When I got the car it had the original emblem but it had seen better days. Eventually it snapped driving down the road. Ive been through 3 replacements, all junk. No idea why someone can't make this out of a better, stronger material rather than the tin crap that bends and breaks. Still wouldn't trade that grille for anything!

I just sold a guy the center plastic piece and the center metal piece today to finish up his car. He was thrilled to get them.

I must chime in and say that the 71-72 front ends are the most awesome design for any car ever made, with or without the center post. As an owner of a 3rd gen Charger, of which I really dig the front end, I will always envy the RR/Sat owners... just because of the front grille, which trumps everything else.

Man oh man, I want a 71-72 RR or Satellite. Those of you who own one, you win.

I think the solid blackout look is better, that insert kinda looks weird. It makes it more funny looking rather than sinster.

There both cool...

But I kinda see the 72 grille like Peter Fonda
