The restoration on my 64 Polara 2dr Hdtp has officially begun.

One area of concern is the cowl. It appears to be packed with leaves and other miscellaneous debris. Upon closer examination the only accessible spot that I see to clean it out is behind the front fenders.

Is it safe to assume that I need to pull the fenders off to gain adequate access for cleaning or is there some other trick/method I haven’t thought of.

Also … there is “some” rust in the lower cowl area… not a significant amount but it will still require some attention. How would I approach repairing this or should I just let the professionals at the body shop handle it.

Thanks …

Cowl/firewall is a common rust problem on these. I'd atleast pull the pass fender and check the well drain behind it. If yours is a SW car then your probably good but a looksee can't hurt.

Heres a shot of the area in which I speak of.

Thanks guys ... interesting to see it with the inners removed. If I draw a straight line between the 2 clean outs it coincides with the visible rust area.

I've decided to attempt to tackle the repair myself. I have a cut off wheel, grinder and a welder ... what's the point of having them if they don't get used once in a while.

What rust are ya talking about? I dont see anything other than surface rust, got a better pic?

The picture was supplied by moparmark for reference. The area is not real big but it needs to be fixed.

Hopefully once I get in there the problem is not too serious.
