I was stoked to find the round gauges for my 74 Sat. Bummer is, they don't hook up the same :icon_eek: . I have pictures of the backside of the instrument cluster. Anybody be able to help me with the wiring? The colors for the wires are listed on the back of the circular cluster. I am concerned with the regulator for the instruments also. The flat cluster has the single plug with the pins. As soon as I find a way to get my pics on a website I will put a link.

You have the wrong dash wiring harness for the Rallye gauges. The Rallye gauges use a totally different dash harness than the standard gauges. Also 74 Rallye gauges were a 1 year only that had lights next to the wiper and headlight switches. If you have the correct gauges for a 74 than you need a 74 Rallye gauge harness to make everything work. 71-73 Rallye gauges should use the same Rallye gauge harness.

The gauges came from a 73 Satellite. I was going to cut the wires and solder the proper connectors on to it. The issue I was facing was about the voltage regulator for the gauges. Just wondering if the only way I am going to get this to work is to get a wiring harness for the cab?

If you can get the harness from the 73 satellite that had the Rallye gauges get it as it will make your conversion a whole lot easier and will seriously limit the amount of foul language when things don't work right with your current harness.

Do yourself a favor and get a copy of the factory service manual for your car, the wiring diagrams for both the non-rallye and rallye dash boards are side by side. Short of an entire replacement rallye dash harness, to modify the non-rallye harness is doable; you will need at least the cluster portion of a rallye dash harness with the discreet light bulb sockets or equivalent. The voltage limiter is different mechanically in how it is mounted/wired, shouldn’t have too much trouble locating the correct one. Will need to relocate the wiper switch wiring as well.

There are 3 different harnesses. 71 72/3 and 74. The pinout at the bulk head changed for each set. If you use a dash harness other than 74 you'll have to color match the wires between the dash harness and the motor/front harnesses.

First off I do read a lot of the posts and replies on this forum and it still amazes me that if you have a question concerning these very special cars we all own you will always get an answer from one of the guys...72 RR GTX is a perfect example...he supplies the wiring diagrams and a photo too...my gosh what a sweetie he is...I know that you guys have in the past been very kind to me and supplied a world of knowledge concerning any problem or question I had with my 73 RR...I really just want to say thank you guys, once again you have come thru,Metelhead had a question and the response was great..anyway, you guys all get a hug from me...Marla...

Summabitch! :icon_sad:

I have 3 harnesses lying down in the basement...It's been so long, I need to figure out what's 71 and what is '72.

i am new to this site , just joined. i am in the process of restmoding my 73 satellite/sebring . i am in the process of changing the gauge cluster . i am going with the rally gauges instead of the standard ones , i have the 150 mph speedo from a charger as well as the complete under dash harness. i also have the harness that was in my car . neither are cut up or damaged . i originally thought that this was gonna b an easy swap ( boy was i wrong ) . i have found that most wires r the same but there r different wires that dont match my car. im getting soooo frustrated. i am considering trying to take the tape off of each section (one section at a time ) and trace each wire and possibly remove what i dont need and keep what i do need. is this a feesable plan of attack ? please help. u seem to know a good bit about this according to what all u have wrote.

As Moparmarks mentioned, in the four years that dash layout was used in the b-body there were several variations depending on options and additional circuits for both non and rallye clusters. Later cars had seat belt warning lights and buzzers, seatbelt interlock systems, two speed vs. 3 speed wipers are wired slightly differently as well as relocated in the cluster. Get a factory service manual for the year car you have if you don’t already have one, it will have detailed schematics for both non and rallye clusters showing specific circuits that match your car. Diagram I posted is from the 72’ FSM and may not be 100% correct for 73’. Use the original harness as a reference. You may have to move a few connectors around the bulkhead connector cavities to match and/or remove some wiring related to components your car is not equipped with.
