anyways looking at a 70 rr wondering if i can get a few opinions.
70's RR come with a dana rear or was that added 383 car.
thanks

standard was an 8 3/4 rear end with a 383. dana 60's came with the Hemi and the 440...(option with the 440 i believe ) if there is a dana 60 in your 383 RR...someone other than the factory put it there. either that...or it had a hemi or a 440 and was replaced with a 383....one of the 2 scenarios. your fender tag will tell you all of this !

can someone verify this because im not 100% sure.

383 cars all came standard with the 8 3/4 and so did 440 and Hemi cars that were equipped with an auto trans.

The only 440 and Hemi cars that got the Dana were the 4 speed cars.

However this changed with the 69-up models when the Trac Pac and Super Trac Pac options became available, then you could order a 440 or Hemi car with auto trans and a Dana.

The 383 cars were never available with a Dana.

They tell me that there are supposedly a few 383 cars (per original owners) that DID get a Dana. The theory is that these were cars that were ordered with 3.55 or 3.91 gears and as they came down the line there may not have been an 8 3/4 available at the time and the factory substituted a Dana to keep the line running. In these cases it would not show on the BS or fender tag so even in the case of an original owner you would have to trust his word and trying to sell a car like that would always be a burdon of proof issue.

The 054 on the second line down is the axle assembly code and it is a 3.23 8 3/4 without sure grip and with 11" brakes.
