im getting ready to pull a 383 out of a 73 roadrunner. factory big block car. this car has a dana 60 rear end in her. dont know gear ratio. anti sway bar. 727 torqeflite tranny. shifter on the floor slap stick. factor tic toc tach in dash. anybody know what model or anything this is. is this a rare version. will post pics later. 383 runs great in her. imma pull it out and fix the transmission main seal.

It's a 383 and a Dana 60? I didn't know you could get either of those in a 73....
Pics please....

Post the VIN and the info off the fender tag and somebody here can tell you what it was originally.

I had an original 73' RR. w/factory 400 hp motor, 727, 8 3/4 3:23 sure grip. NO Dana's came in these cars or 383's in 1973. Some one's been doing some swapping in the past.

It is probably a 400 and a 9 1/4 rear.Never put Danas or 383's in passenger cars in 1973.The last year for the 383 1971 and the last year for a dana 60 in a car is 1972.

That's kinda what I thought. Although, mine has the factory 8 3/4 rear, it now sports a 440/4spd. Something else you couldn't get in '73

Dude, honestly, if I had to do it over again, I would go with a 5spd. I have done a buttload of Keisler conversions and after doing the 4spd conversion on my bird, I figured out that I could have gone with the extra gear for not a huge amount more. Don't get me wrong, I love my old school 4spd, but the smart money is on the upgrade.

Yes you could get a 440,4/speed Dana 60 in 73 and 74. The guy said he didn't know what year his 383 is and you can put any rear end in any car.
What I don't understand is why pull the engine to replace a transmission front seal? The easy way working by yourself on 73 and newer B bodies is to unload the T bars and drop the T bar crossmember, then the mount crossmember and pull the transmission. If you don't have a trans jack secure the trans to your floor jack and use it.
