the 68 Cuda is almost done so its on to the next. I recently bought a 64 Belvedere, formally a drag car. It has no motor or transmission. I bought it from the 2nd owner who swears the car was a hemi car. It was purchased new from Izzos, in Mechanicville ,NY. where it was raced by Stan Newman and sponsered by Izzos. The guy I bought it from said some dealers could get these cars for racing with the hemi. I don't know???? It is a 2 door H/T with push button auto it does have the 426 emblem so at least its a wedge car. Any help on this would be great. Thanks, Rick

Welcome. The fender tag is the key and will tell if it's a Hemi car or not. MOST of the 64 Hemi cars were aluminum front end cars, but there were some all steel "nascar" cars out there. I looked at one for sale a few years ago.

heres the fender tag. I don't know how to decode it. Any help?? Thanks, Rick

First, welcome and solid-looking '64. Welcome to that club as well(we're starting our own little '64 clique in our quest for world domination);in progress pics are a must.

Second;did you finish your last project before starting your next one? It's sort of like your mom saying "Did you finish your vegetables? You can't have dessert until you've finished your vegetables":grin::grin: I can't talk;I'm like that with my snowmobile projects. Thank God I only have ONE car to devote my attention to.

Thanks for all the welcomes. To answer you Al K, I went to bed early because Its not completely done. Just a few cosmetics like the tail light lenses that are priced out of this world. Over all, a very good driver. RB

Drive it;you mean we're supposed to be able to DRIVE our cars? Wow;I thought we just let them run in the garage while ATF leaks into a pan:rolling::rolling::rolling:. ...or,all over the driveway...

Well since it's a drag car it should stay with the racing history.I see a streetable race car in the works. How far is Lebonon Valley Raceway from you??It's just south of Albany?

its only 40 minutes southeast SGF Dragway was only 15 minutes

SGF (South Glens Falls Dragway) was shut down 20+ years ago. Its a long sad story about that track. Bruno

Nice Car, Rick (you can see why I say that!). If your car were a factory Hemi car, it would obviously be very valuable since there weren't many '64 Hemi cars. I wonder if there's any chance you can track backwards to try to verify it. It seems to me a lot of the factory drag cars were post cars (Savoys) - not Belvedere hard tops, but I don't know how definitive that is. As '69 Runner said, a steel front end could mean Nascar - and King Richard drove a Belvedere hard top in '64. But 46 years later, who knows what anything was and became since. I like your car no matter what. It would be fun to see if you can get to the bottom of it's history, though. I don't have that problem since mine is a Poly - for now, that is.

Oh yeah, and your Cuda is mighty fine!

Dave

Finally got my book out. It's NOT a Hemi, but it IS a 426 with a single 4V, 365 hp and 10.5:1 compression
