can someone point me into the right direction on the proper linkage set up, for my 440 727 holley setup...what iam using now is a one piece that goes to the kickdown arm that has the adjustment at the tranny and a piece that bolts to the intake and has a u shape piece that pivots..has a flat sloted steel piece at the carb....if i go full kickdown and set it for full throttle when i release the everything with the adaptor for the holley, there is about a 1/4 inch space before the rod touches the kickdown arm...havent tried it went...was told it should follow the throttle arm from idel to full throttle and full kickdown in a one to one ratio....if i hook it up to follow the throttle i hit full kickdown and have no full throttle any ideas...

The way that I have always adjusted kickdown linkage for a push button 727 is to make sure that the kickdown arm at the trans is all the way back when the throttle linkage is wide open. If there is space in the linkage slot when the throttle is closed it doesn't matter as long as the linkage operates smoothly and doesn't hang up. Remember that there is no part throttle kickdown in the old pushbutton 727s. To get the trans to kickdown you have to let off the throttle completely then floor the throttle.

so push the kickdown all the way back, then adj so the carb will be at full throttle, the let up, ad springs, and thats it, and dont worry if there is alittle space in the opening were it ataches to the carb,,,,,

Yep. That's the way my trans guy said it's supposed to be. Real simple. Just don't expect it to work like the later Tflites that have part throttle kickdown.

i have wide open throttle at all the way back kickdown this is what i have, was thinking mabe i should have brought the kickdown bracket at the intake up an inch, like the carb spacer, and added an inch to the rod going down to keep in line. but seems to work smooth without bind... thought pics would help.. That looks about right. I'm running a Edelbrock 750 so it's a little different, but I'm using the same kickdown linkage and it works good. As long as the kickdown rod is all the way back at wide open throttle it'll be fine. Have a helper push the gas pedal to the floor and check to make sure the carb butterflies are opening all the way (straight up and down) and the kickdown rod is all the way back.

i will test it out tomorrow, its funny if i take up the slack at the carb, it hits full kickdown and short of wide open...my friends 65 cornett has a poly 318 with a 727 colum shift that goes to cables at the tranny.his kick is different, but the edelbrock hes using the kickdown follows the full movement or travel of his carb to full throttle and kickdown says shifts right but havent drove his car yet....ill let you know what happens thanks...

can somone post a pic of a factory 63 dodge v8 pushbutton kickdown linkage set up...

obviously this isn't a stock 63 kickdown but the principal is the same; a one piece rod.

with the setup i have no matter how it adjusted either i get good shift and no full throttle or full throttle early shift...hmmmm its like something not right...this is what iam using, should it work? and would it help if i added 1 in to the mount and add an inch to the stright part of the rod going down to the trans, to make up for the 1 in spacer under the carb, all ready have the adapter for the holley...

no matter how i adjust it i eaither have full kickdown and no full throttle or i have full throttle and not full kickdown whats up?

I'm not sure what you mean by "full kickdown". The trans either kicks down or it doesn't. These earlier 727's don't kickdown like the later ones do. Also I think the shift points are lower at full throttle. Without driving the car and seeing what it's doing, I'm running out of ideas. Anyone else have any thoughts?

sorry i mean when i set the lever on the tranny for the kickdown as far as it will go when making the adjustments.

i don't know for sure what you have there but it looks '70's a-body stuff(?). my 65 coronet had a one piece rod that went to the kickdown lever and a throttle cable bracket with a "u" shaped channel for the rod to ride in. a very simple set-up.

thats what iam trying to find out, what came stock on the 63 pushbutton v8 i think its a multi piece setup i have the part that bolts to the tranny and goes to the kickdown lever, and the piece that goes, and the down the back of the block, but i need the part that goes on the intake and the adjustiable piece that goes to the carb...if thats what it takes it may look like this $(KGrHqV,!oEE9gv30ZWsBP,)0CW(Zw~~60_12.jpg

if your using a cable transmission the stuff you have pictured with the bell crank and 3 rods won't work. the cable trans doesn't have the mounting boss, or at least mine doesn't, for the bell crank. i've got a one piece rod that cam on my 65 coronet and i'll try to get a picture of it.

my tranny came with the beel crank mounted and hooked up the the throttle valve lever on the trans, bout thats all i had...this is what my friends 65 coronet has bkd.jpg should i be able to make any of theses set ups work or do i need the factory one

the picture your showing looks like the kickdown on my '69. there's no way that will work on my tranny. i have a 65 service manual and it shows the one piece rod that i have pictured. this rod came out of my 361 2bbl coronet and something like this should work on a cable tranny.
