Shouldn't be any access into that area even with the carb off....was the distributor off?

come to think of it, you're right...

yeah, it was out when i got the car.....that must be how they got them in there....

Yup....and I think rats are worse lol

You did a good job getting it cleaned up! Funny the places you find the critters in, a mouse decided to go skinny dipping in a oil pan once, had the front of engine torn down, small space where the timing chain cover normally would be.. Think it was a bit on the slippery side and couldn't get back out, doing a back flip when he was spotted lol.. Intake looks good! I have another SB im looking at parts to get before putting engine away ive been cleaning and ive been looking up different parts when i get the finances, You may be able to use this now if your interested, price is good..

oooh, that is a good price..:toothy5: i might put a bid on that....

This old motor was seriously neglected, stupid people ugh:angry1:, it's a wonder it ran as good as it did..not the original motor though, it's a 318 out of a 86 fifth avenue...which is a roller cam engine

The biggest issue i have with it atm is #2 cylinder has what i believe to be a stuck exhaust valve..you can clearly hear the open valve "putt putt" when the engine is cold, also it sucks my hand to the exhaust pipe on that side.... but it clears up and starts running on all 8 once it warms up...I'm gonna remove the rocker/valve spring and hook my drill to it, then run it up-n-down while spraying the stem with pb blaster, maybe that will clean it off....I dont think it's burnt, due to the issue clearing up after the engine warms up..

Mice...it was mice. We see acorns and automatically assume squirrels. Used to find them on my sons intake manifold when his car sat for long periods (away for college). I thought squirrels also, until I opened the hood to find a mouse building a nest. Later had same thing going on with daughters car. Ended up with a nest (and babies) in the blower...made quite a racket when she tried to turn the heater on. Hurricane Irene took the White Oak tree down that supplied the nuts. Haven't had much of a problem since. On newer cars, the mice like to store nuts in the air filter box as well.

I guess varmints like Mopars just as much as we do!

finally all put together...

still have a few issues to fix, but no biggie..:toothy5:
