Oil Slinger Installation

Anyone got a photo of how the Oil Slinger gets installed on a 440 ? What holds it in place other than the keyway ? What stops it from moving along the crank between the timing gear and the cover ?

The dished side fits up against the seal. It just sits on the crank snout with the key way holding it. I think the harmonic balancer holds it in further when installed.

The slinger is held with the balancer and the sprocket on the crank that is it.

Sometimes it's not held in place at all because many forget to put it back on, or just decide not to..... LOL!

Thanks. Now it makes a bit more sense. I had not noticed that the balancer actually extends through the timing cover gasket and will hold the oil slinger away from the timing cover (my first engine assembly - Me and Mr. Google doing it as a team)

Purchased a used 440, and a bucket full of bolt-on parts.

- Edelbrock Heads and ARP Bolt set
- PRW Rocker Rollers
- Quickfuel 950 Carb
- Comp Cams Extreme Energy 21-225-4(Single Bolt) Camshaft
- Edelbrock Performer RPM Intake
- MSD 8387 Distributor
- Milodan Pan and pickup
- more small stuff and a bit of bling

The PRW set came with zero instructions or diagrams. Their website hosts only one terrible set of instructions for how to install rocker rollers on a small block chevy. Myself and Mr. Google trying to assemble that today.

Trying to get it installed for the July 27th, 2012 Street legal night at the Saskatoon International Raceway (SIR). Buddies 68 Cutlass (455) been stomping my *** regular. My tired old 383 (in my 69 Sport Satellite) runs about 15.5 in the 1/4. I know it could do better than that with some parts and some tuning, but I always wanted a 440.

Not doing anything to the bottom end this year. Making that a separate project to have a pro build me a short block stroker when I can afford that also.
