Tonight when I get home, there will be a box in my mailbox. And inside that box will be the rarest of Roadrunner parts... the windshield wiper knob for a rallye dash! It only took me eight months to get one, but I finally got one. :)

I know the feeling.
Took me several years to find a good Power Bulge hood that wasnt rusted out or full of holes, and a R/T rear panel emblem for a 68 Coronet.

It all in the hunt.

Congrads on finding that part!
Yeah, stuff is getting harder and harder to find!
Again, "We" are all happy you found it.
PS: Was it expensive and where did you find it?

It was on ebay, and the price was $32 shipped, which included the knob and the switch. I already have the switch, so I'll repost that on ebay and whatever that sells for will just be gravy. :) By the way, the $32 for the switch and knob came out of existing funds that I had left over from selling an uncut rallye cluster on ebay for $320 (I wanted to install an aftermarket stereo and didn't want to cut up an uncut cluster, so I bought a cut cluster locally for $50, and applied the remaining $270 towards a carpet and headliner, which came out to just shy of $240, so I'm staying to my goal of being as revenue neutral as possible).

If you need the matching headlight switch knob, I've got an extra one... can point you to a guy who'll repaint the blue and polish everything to new, too.

Thanks Bigred. I have the headlight knob, and could find hundreds of wiper switches... just couldn't find that blasted knob! :)

Someone should repro that wiper knob.

I bet it'd sell 10,000 the first week.

All my rallye clusters are missing it, and 80% of the cars on EB and CL are missing it, plus all the cars in salvage yards.

I might look into that. My sister-in-law makes custom jewelry and has connections to a lot of fabricators. I doubt it would cost much to make something small and simple like this.

funny, I have a 68 power bulge hood leaning up against the wall collecting dust.

Well, it's officially 1324Hrs PST, and 1624Hrs EST.
Did it arrive?

Same here - I had a saved search on eBay for almost two years :eusa_pray: but only headlight knobs kept coming up. Then the guy who did my Rallye resto said he'd ask around (but don't place any bets) - and talked someone into giving one up for $50. He thought I was  when I okayed the purchase.

And of course, two weeks later a wiper knob finally showed up on eBay, for $28 BIN.

Glad you found yours! :headbang:

The good news is it's in my hot little hands!!! :) The bad news is my car is still in paint & body so I can't install it after eight months of staring at that shaft sticking out. But, every cloud has a silver lining and I'm taking it over to my sister-in-law's tonight so she can show it around to some fabricators to see how hard/expensive it'll be to make one so the wait won't be wasted. :)

I could go for one of those paint jobs. A couple of the very few things that I still need to do to my dash

:werd:hmmm ive owned 4 71-74 bbodies with rally dashes, my dad 8, all of them had the wiper knob - is this a USA thing?

I bet there was some kind of factory defect on those.

We had about 50 97-ish Astro/Safari vans in our fleet at work, and the heater knobs (there were three of them) all broke off of almost every van within a year.

Now I see that specific replacement knob in the "Help" section!

The part that goes on the shaft had a slot, and a spring clip that kept the plastic tight to the metal shaft. All of them broke or cracked opposite the slot, basically removing 1/2 of the "socket" for the shaft.
