I was just wondering if anyone is using a TQ on their big block. I was thinking of going that way with an Edelbrock Performer manifold. Or is there a better carb. for street use?
Opinions will vary. 850 Demon on the same intake. Awesome performance.
I had great results when I used one years ago, very responsive at all speeds.
But I also have to say that the best carb I experimented with on my 440 was a Rochester Quadrajet using an adaptor plate.

750, I think it was from an Olds 455. I still have a shelf full of them.
Yep, the Quadrajet rocks. I like that carb a lot. What size did you use?
The T/Q is like a poor mans copy of the Rochester.
I myself like the TQ a lot. The small primary delivers a good fuel atomization and helps retain low end torque with the ability for good mileage.
The TQ was designed as a race carb before it became stock equipment. I love the street strip performance of this carb. IMO, you need to spend some good money on a Holley to get a worthy note of performance over a TQ. Not just any Holley, but a nice one that you'll have to drop some coin on.
I myself am on a budget. (kids in collage and etc……)
So for myself, I'll stick with a decent core and rebuild it. $25-$50 and a rebuild kit for about another $50. Works real well for me. I end up with a screamer of a carb for cheap.

21 mpg to Reno. Tremec/354. Demon. No vac advance.Absolutely true. The Demon will never meet both worlds like a good tuned Thermoquad, though. Nothing like getting 20 plus MPG and having 850 CFM on tap.
